How do I know if he is the one God has for me?

I am having a hard time determining if a guy is the person God wants me to be with. I had been praying for awhile that if this is going to end in heart break or such that God would remove him from my life. God hasn't removed him. I stopped praying this prayer for awhile. I just prayed it again today and am feeling sad. After praying, I usually listen and see if God has anything to say. I am hearing mixed things between something like be patient I am working in both of your lives and he is not for you. How do I know if he is someone God wants/approves for me to marry in the future?
