We understand that you're holding onto bitterness and struggling to forgive, while also seeking healing from past relationships. Firstly, we commend you for praying in Jesus' name, as this is the only way we can approach God according to John 14:6 "Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me."
Forgiveness is a challenging issue, but God calls us to it repeatedly. Ephesians 4:31-32 says, "Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God also in Christ forgave you."
Regarding past relationships, we want to remind you that God's plan for us is to flee sexual immorality. 1 Corinthians 6:18 says, "Flee sexual immorality! Every sin that a man can commit is outside the body; but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body." If these relationships were not aligned with biblical principles, we encourage you to repent and turn away from them, trusting that God will heal and restore you. Sex is a gift from God within marriage. It is a union that represents Christ and the church as seen in Ephesians 5:25-33.
Your frustration and pain are understandable, but remember that God is faithful to heal and restore. Psalm 147:3 says, "He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds."
Let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in Jesus' name, lifting up our brother/sister who is struggling with bitterness and pain. We ask, Lord, that You would heal their heart, help the forgiveness and release the bitterness.
Help them to let go of the past relationships that did not honor You Lord and heal any pain or wounding that still lingers.
We pray for Your comfort and peace to fill their heart. We ask that You would help them to trust in You completely trusting that You will make a way even when it seems so difficult.
Give them a supernatural capacity to forgive, just as You have forgiven us all. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Keep holding on, but turn it all over to Jesus Christ. Be encouraged by Psalm 34:18, "Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit." Trust in Him, and He will see you through.
