We are truly sorry to hear that you are in an abusive situation and that someone is preventing you from leaving. First and foremost, we want to assure you that God sees your suffering and hears your cry for help. The Bible tells us that God is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18, WEB).
We must strongly rebuke and condemn any form of abuse or coercive control. It is clear in scripture that God hates violence and oppression (Malachi 2:16).
Notice that in the request, we do not see the name of Jesus Christ mentioned. It is only by His name that we have access to God the Father. (John 14:6) Also, there is no other name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12).
We strongly encourage you to involve others in seeking help, such as an elder or spiritual person in the church but not one that is associated with the abuser or pastor, the police or legal authorities. If you or anyone is in immediate danger, you should reach out to local emergency authorities or a local church or ministry, if it is a safe way to do so. You do not have to face this alone. Do not be ashamed or afraid to let others know what is happening.
Please know that it is not God's will for you to be harmed or controlled by anyone. If married to this abuser, we understand God is very displeased with divorce (Malachi 2:16). If there is danger, the abused spouse, and any already given children by God can separate and live in another place. If the abuser becomes a Believer in Jesus Christ, we would encourage reconciliation, but not before then.
In addition to seeking help from local authorities and the church, we encourage you to call out to the Lord Jesus Christ in prayer. Here is a prayer we can lift up together:
"Dear Lord Jesus Christ, we come before You, lifting up our sister/brother who is in a desperate situation.
We fully affirm and obey scripture which tells us to pray, For all who ask receive, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened (Matthew 7:7).
You are a God who the Bible tells us cares about oppression, pain, suffering, trauma, helps the captives and saves. We are also told to pray for the victims and perpetrators of crime that they know that You will also be their judge (James 5:9) (1 Thes 5:15).
We praise You that You are part of the trinity of God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. You are our Bridegroom, waiting for the Bride which will be the Church to be ready, ( Rev 19:7). You are our Savior, waiting for the Pardoned Criminal, our Physician, waiting for the Sick, our Shepherd, waiting for the Lost, our Father, waiting for the Prodigal and our Judge, waiting for the Dead.
We are told in scripture to pray for perpetrators but not with them (1 Thess 5:4). We are also told that oppressors and those that oppose justice can come to a horrible end (Job 20-24)( Job 31:21).
Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while those who escape and those who have been rescued from them depart (Psalm 141:10 WEB). Let their mischief return upon their own head, and let their violent dealing come down on their own crown and on to their own head (Psalm 7:16 WEB).
Deliver them away from having to experience the violence they may have chosen to inflict on others (Psalm 81:11-12 WEB).
Lord Jesus, we ask You to guide the person who has submitted this request to safety and freedom. The Bible tells us that where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty (2 Corinthians 3:17, WEB). God can open any and every door (Acts 12:10-16)( Acts 16:25-40 WEB). We have confidence that in Jesus name, we have access God and will bring freedom and restoration into their lives. We are told to pray so that God's light will be revealed in dark places where crimes are being committed (Job 12:22) and we request the full light of God the Father to shine brightly on this situation so that the full truth will be acknowledged.
Lord, please provide this sister or brother the strength and guidance needed. Lord Jesus you truly understand the pain of suffering at the hands of abusers as well as those that reject love (Isaiah 53:3-5)
We are assured of this in the scripture where the devil is called a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him.
Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks on his own; for he is a liar, and the father of lies and the Devil. God tells us that He has come that they may have life, and may have it abundantly. We can only have this great life because God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life. That whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life (John 3:16 WEB).
Show them Your love and mercy, and help them to escape from this abusive situation. We are also told of a great encouragement to bring our concerns to God. To come to God's throne of grace and His mercy to the saints with our requests to God to get mercies to our great need which we will find grace for the present help (Hebrews 4:16).
We commit this prayer request to You, Lord Jesus. In Your precious name, we pray. Amen."
