We are so grateful that you have reached out with your prayer request, and we want you to know that we are here to support and pray with you. First, let's address your plea for God's help to kick your drug addiction. Using the word “perhaps” you acknowledge that God can help. It is good to know that you want to stop this sin that is controlling your life. We do not have to wonder if your violence to your body with drugs is OK. The word of God tells us that our body is not our own.
“Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 WEB
This is a serious problem that you are asking God’s help with. It will need to be dealt with by the professional help of a good therapist and the accountability of a strong biblical 12 step group. They will help you to work the 12 steps. You will need to work the steps. No one will be able to work them for you. See the 12 steps listed below. Group members and others who have gone before you may tell you how they worked the steps, but you will need to work them yourself.
As Christians we are told to put away the things of the world and live as children of God. When someone is living as an addict they are living the opposite of what a Christian should live. The word of God tells us,
“Put to death therefore whatever is earthly in you: sexual immorality, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry; for which things’ sake the wrath of God comes on the children of disobedience. You also once walked in these, when you lived in them. But now you also put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and shameful speaking out of your mouth. Don’t lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old man with his doings, and have put on the new man, who is being renewed in knowledge after the image of his Creator,” Colossians 3:5-10 WEB
It is good to know that you are willing to let God intervene in your life. Let us pray together that God will take this addiction away from you.
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up our brother/sister in Christ who is struggling with drug addiction. We acknowledge that this is a sin and a stronghold in their life, and we ask for Your divine intervention. Lord, we pray that You would give them the strength and courage to seek professional help and to work the 12 steps with the support of a biblical 12 step group. We ask that You would surround them with Your healing presence, breaking the chains of addiction and setting them free to live a life that honors You.
Father, we also pray that You would send Your angels to watch over and protect them, guiding them in the path of righteousness. We know that it is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to You, and it is in His name that we pray for deliverance and healing.
Finally, we pray for anyone who has let something in their life become more important than God. We pray that they see that becoming free of their idolatry is found in the name of Jesus Christ. We pray that they believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. We pray that they can say with the Apostle Paul,
“ I have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I that live, but Christ living in me. That life which I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself up for me.” Galatians 2:20 WEB
In Jesus' mighty name, we pray. Amen.
The 12 Steps
1. We admitted we were powerless over our addiction – that our lives has become unmanageable
2. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity
3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him
4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves
5. Admitted to God, to ourselves and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs
6. Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character
7. Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings
8. Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all
9. Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others
10. Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it
11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out
12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to other addicts, and to practice these principles in all our affairs
