We are truly sorry to hear about the physical and emotional challenges that are being faced, and we are here to pray and offer guidance based on biblical principles.
Firstly let us address this request that healing is needed. We are reminded of the story when friends of a paralyzed man brought him to Jesus for healing.
When he returned to Capernaum after some days, it was reported that he was at home. So many gathered that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them. Some people came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them. When they could not come near to him because of the crowd, they removed the roof where he was. When they had broken it up, they let down the mat that the paralytic was lying on. Jesus, seeing their faith, said to the paralytic, Child, your sins are forgiven you. But there were some of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts, 'Why does this man speak blasphemies like that? Who can forgive sins but God alone?' Immediately Jesus, perceiving in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, said to them, Why do you reason these things in your hearts? Which is easier, to tell the paralytic, 'Your sins are forgiven;' or to say, 'Arise, and take up your bed, and walk?' But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins (he said to the paralytic,), I tell you, arise, take up your mat, and go to your house. He arose, and immediately took up the mat, and went out in front of them all; so that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw anything like this! Mark 2:1-12 WEB
So we will start by believing for the same thing Jesus did first before healing the paralytic. We believe that all sin has been forgiven by the blood of Jesus Christ on the cross and his resurrection. When we sin as Christian believers then the fellowship with Jesus is broken and that needs to be restored by repenting. A relationship with Jesus is essential to restored health and healing. Therefore the fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. So when you are praying for healing that your sins would be forgiven should not the first matter of business. If you are not "in Christ" or been born of God then please understand that anyone who believes on Jesus will be saved. Forgiveness is an act by God towards us based on the belief in our hearts.
But as many as received him, to them he gave the right to become God's children, to those who believe in his name: who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. John 1:12-13 WEB.
as it is written, "Behold, I lay in Zion a stumbling stone and a rock of offense, And no one who believes in him will be disappointed." Romans 9:33 WEB
God does heal based on our faith alone. When the woman with the issue of blood touched the hem of Jesus's garment, she was healed immediately but she had to confess this when Jesus asked, "Who touched me?" But what is fascinating is Jesus replied, "your faith has made you whole." So the prayer request "Pls pray for weight loss & healings...&etc." is addressed next. Let us look at the source of the problem: being overweight.
Let's notreturn evil for evil to anyone. Let's follow after that which is good, always, for one to another, and for all men. If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men. 1 Thessalonians 5:15 & Romans 12:17-18
In our group we deal with tough issues and so let us focus on the overeating that is causing the weight problem. Sometimes an addiction to food is the problem. The Bible addresses this as a sin issue. It is of great importance to bring this to light:
whether you eat, or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31 WEB
Therefore do not let your good be slandered, for the Kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. Romans 14:16-17 WEB
Putting on weight is often a symptom of sinful behavior.
For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please. Galatians 5:17 WEB
This is a tough subject but we do not want to be responsible for idle and holy words that amount to nothing. For example it does not help or honor God by typing prayers or notes of encouragement that Christ commanded someone to be healed of bad arthritis in feet/toes/ankles but actually never happened. To say that "by His stripes you were healed" is oversimplifying and twisting the Word of God.
Who his own self bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live to righteousness; by whose stripes you were healed. 1 Peter 2:2 WEB
The meaning of 1 Peter 2:24 is that Jesus died for our sins and is the way the relationship with Jesus is restored. His sacrifice is the basis for our justification with God and so we will be raised on the last day. This does not mean that we will be healed of all our ailments and sickness this side of eternity. Let us not propagate what some evangelists do who claim to heal people from their diseases on national television or in churches under a tent. We are not describing the gift of healing but the forgiveness of sin that Peter was referring to. Too often many people run with 1 Peter 2:24 while taking it out of context claiming immediate healing. The result is that people are confused and worse many are led to believe that the healing is the result of faith.
Now faith is assurance of things hoped for, proof of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1 WEB
So if we do not have what we are hoping for then it was not faith at all. So our faith should be 100% certain of what we hope for. People with such misguided faith trust God and still get worse or possibly die. We do not want to mislead people with this verse even though we wish healing for the individual. Let us not turn God into a big vending machine where we put in our faith changing and get out healing. If this happens then this is wonderful but the healing can only be attributed to the sovereignty of God and so He gets all the glory and not our faith. On the other hand if the healing does not happen then asserting that healing is assured in Jesus Name is a tool of the enemy to bring division and confusion. We should want these things to just happen where God is in control but the believing Christian may sometimes die in full obedience to God through absolutely no fault of their own.
For you know the proof of your faith, the product of steadfastness, is becoming complete in you. *will of God, that you should suffer.* 1 Peter 1:6-7 WEB
Then there is a reference to the difficult financial situation. There is no need to pray for financial healing as such but a prayer for the releasing of fear and an unforgiving attitude. Being overweight sometimes has an underlying problem of unforgiveness. Jesus talked about not judging so you will not be judged. Let us understand that holding a grudge and wanting punishment and them to suffer as a result may actually turn back on yourself.
Do not judge, and you will not be judged; and do not condemn, and you will not be condemned; set free, and you will be set free. Luke 6:37
He who conceals his sins doesn't prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy. Proverbs 28:13
we are ambassadors on behalf of Christ, as though God were entreating by us: we beg you on behalf of Christ, be you reconciled to God. 2 Corinthians 5:20 WEB
Gods judgement on your life will be releasing in accordance to your judgement on others. This is the balance and justice of God. This could be the underlying problem that is perpetuating the financial difficulties.
Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, as we ourselves also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. Bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. Matthew 6:11-13 WEB
This is not a one off prayer for forgive my sins but maintaining restore fellowship with Jesus by confessing our sins. Jesus is referring to 1 John 1:9 and so the daily forgiveness refers to applying 1 John 1:9 on a regular basis. So praying, "...healings & etc." may be a reference to a whole lot of sin that needs to be addressed before healing happens.
Let's pray for this situation:
Dear Jesus,
We come before you, lifting up your child in prayer. We ask that you forgive them of their sins and heal their arthritic feet, toes, and ankles. We pray Lord Jesus that you will have compassion to heal and know that You are able to do accordiing to Your will. Please God give this person the strength and determination needed to maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle. Help them to rid themselves of the collection addiction they are struggling with. We pray for healing of the lung disease, autoimmune illness, and chronic cough. You will also help this individual sell excess items to declutter the home, allowing a loved one named Doug to recover from severe memory issues, hearing difficulties, dental challenges, and financial struggles.
In Your precious and mighty Name, amen.
