We are truly sorry to hear about the struggle with an eating disorder and the impact it's having on your life. First, we want to remind you that your identity and worth are not defined by your appearance or weight, but by the fact that you are a child of God, fearfully and wonderfully made. As it is written in Psalm 139:14, "I will give thanks to you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful, my soul knows that very well."
It's important to address that the eating disorder may be a result of an unhealthy focus on physical appearance rather than focusing on God. Seeking approval from others or ourselves based on looks is vain. We should seek only to be approved by God. We should control our bodies in a way that is holy and honorable, not driven by selfish passions.
The Bible tells us that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. In 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, it says, "Or don't you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's." This means we should take care of our bodies, not for vanity, but to honor God.
Regarding the struggles, we must remember the words of the Apostle Paul, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."( Philippians 4:13).
We also want to address the fact that your request did not mention Jesus Christ. It is only by His name that we can come to God. In John 14:6 Jesus says "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me"
Let us pray together:
"Dear Heavenly Father, We come before you in the name of Jesus Christ, lifting up our sister or brother who is struggling with an eating disorder. We ask for your healing touch and guidance. Help them to see themselves through your eyes, and not the world's. Give them strength and self-control, and help them to focus on you and your will for their life. Remind them of your unfailing love and your good plans for their life through Jeremiah 29:11. In Jesus Christ's name, we pray. Amen."
Lastly, we strongly advise seeking professional help, which can be crucial in overcoming eating disorders. There is no shame in seeking help from counselors and medical professionals. God has blessed many people with the skills and knowledge to help in these areas.
