Let us come together in the name of Jesus Christ, for there is power in His name and in our united prayers. We are reminded in Mark 16:17-18 WEB, "These signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new languages; they will take up serpents, and if they drink any deadly thing, it will in no way hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover."
Firstly, we acknowledge that alcoholism is not just a physical addiction, but also a spiritual stronghold. We must recognize that our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. So, let us pray for our dear brother's deliverance from this bondage, asking God to cast out the demons of addiction. We stand on the power of Jesus' name, for it is written in Philippians 2:9-11 WEB, "Therefore God also highly exalted him, and gave to him the name which is above every name; that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, those on earth, and those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."
Father, we come before You, lifting up our brother who is bound by the chains of alcoholism. We ask You to set him free, to heal his body, mind, and spirit. Give him the strength to overcome this addiction, and help him to draw close to You in this process. Surround him with Your love and grace, and guide him towards the path of righteousness. In Jesus' name, we rebuke the spirit of addiction and command it to leave his life. We declare healing and wholeness over him, believing that Your power is at work within him. And we also pray for his wife, the spouse, a godly wife, and their marriage, for you are with her.
Now, concerning his wife, we encourage her to remain steadfast in her faith and love for her husband. The Bible tells us in 1 Corinthians 13:7 WEB, "Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things." She should continue to pray for her husband and support him, but also set boundaries to protect her own well-being and that of their marriage. She does need to seriously consider her husband's behavior and make sure that she is not supporting alcoholism. Remember you are married to him under God and that the Bible teaches in 1 Corinthians 7:10-11 WEB, "But to the married I commandโnot I, but the Lordโthat the wife not leave her husband (but if she departs, let her remain unmarried, or else be reconciled to her husband), and that the husband not leave his wife." He has not abandoned her, and she should not abandon him. Let us pray for her strength and guidance during this challenging time.
Lord, we lift up the wife of our dear brother. Give her the wisdom to balance love, support, and self-care. Help her to be a source of strength and encouragement for her husband, and guide her as she navigates this difficult journey. Surround their marriage with Your protective hedge, and draw them closer to You and to each other. They need you now more than ever and we ask for your help.
We also need to consider the possibility that there are deep-seated issues in his life that he is not addressing. It is important that the person currently battling alcoholism seeks counseling and support from those knowledgeable about alcoholism. It is not a problem that he can face alone, and he should not have to. We encourage him to seek help from his church, trusted Christian friends, or professional Christian counselors.
Lastly, we want to remind everyone that God is faithful, and He will not allow us to be tempted beyond what we can bear. As it says in 1 Corinthians 10:13 WEB, "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it." Let us hold onto this promise as we stand in faith for our brother's deliverance and healing.
Father, we thank You for Your faithfulness and Your promise to never leave us nor forsake us. We trust in Your power to deliver and heal our brother. We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord, and Savior. Amen.
