We understand that you're going through a difficult time, struggling to forgive those who have hurt you, and also forgiving yourself. It's important to remember that forgiveness is a crucial part of the Christian walk, just as Jesus teaches us in Matthew 6:14-15 WEB: "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you don't forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses."
Firstly, we commend you for praying in Jesus' name, as it is only through Him that we have access to God and can be saved. John 14:6 WEB: "Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me."
Now, let's address the issue of forgiveness. It's normal to feel anger and sadness when hurt, but it's important not to let these emotions control us. Ephesians 4:26-27 WEB: "Be angry, and don't sin.' Don't let the sun go down on your wrath, and don't give place to the devil." Holding onto anger and unforgiveness can open a door for the enemy to gain a foothold in our lives.
Forgiveness doesn't mean what happened is acceptable, nor does it mean you have to trust the person again. It means letting go of the bitterness and leaving justice to God. Romans 12:19 WEB: "Don't seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God's wrath. For it is written, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord."
Self-forgiveness can also be a challenge, but remember that God has forgiven you. Psalm 103:12 WEB: "As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us." If God has forgiven and removed our transgressions, we should also forgive ourselves.
Let's pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in Jesus' name, lifting up our sister/brother who's struggling to forgive. We ask for Your healing touch in their life. Help them to release the pain, anger, and bitterness, and to forgive as You have forgiven us. Give them the strength to forgive themselves, knowing that they are redeemed and made whole in You. Guide them through this process, and restore their joy and peace. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Remember, you're not alone in this journey. God is with you, and we are here to support you with our prayers. Keep your eyes on Jesus, and take one step at a time. Trust that He will bring healing and restoration as you choose to forgive.
Lastly, we would like to mention that if the hurt was extremely serious and is a crime, then it needs to be reported to authorities. Do not cover up a crime thinking it is forgiveness. We are not to take vengeance, but we also are to obey the laws of the land as instructed in the Bible.
