Let us first thank the Lord Jesus Christ for His loving kindness, for He cares for us and knows all our burdens. It is only through the name of Jesus that we can find true comfort and peace. 'For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus' ( 1 Timothy 2:5 )
Jill, we understand that you are feeling overwhelmed and anxious about your siblings' situations. Remember, God cares for you and your family, and He wants you to cast all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you. We are instructed in 1 Peter 5:7
Having a brother and a sister who have struggled with drug addiction and are currently facing significant challenges, you may feel alone. Yet, there is hope in such a trial. Our God is a good father to the fatherless and a judge to the widows. (Psalm 68:5) In other words, Our God has compassion for the helpless and it is easy to think of your brother this way. When we consider that your brother chose to avoid taking his insulin, we will not hide that his decisions have consequences on others and not just himself.
'To the Lord our God belong mercy and forgiveness; for we have rebelled against Him' (Daniel 9:9) It is easy for us to be hard on ourselves and God knows how to temper His justice with great mercy and forgiveness. He will not excuse the behaviors of our siblings, but for us and for them, we can celebrate His goodness. Let us pray for forgiveness for their rebellion.
How you and your family can get through it:
For your brother, continue to pray for his healing and recovery while he is in the hospital. Pray that he uses this trial to renew his mind and overcome his addictions. The Lord can hear our prayers for Him to comfort your brother. There is power in the name Jesus Christ for all. We pray that a miraculous healing of your brother's life may cause all who see it to pray and consider the true meaning of life with Christ Jesus. We pray that your brothers health situation is turned around for the purpose of helping others find their way to repentance in Christ.
For your sister, you are right to set boundaries if you believe she will bring harm to her self and others if she lives with you. As we consider your sisters situation in light of biblical principles, we are grateful for all that is happening to her is happening and not happening to you. Without her life's hardships, you can still honor God. 'Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap.' We are considering Galatians 6:7 together. Continue to pray for her in love. Ask that the Lord will keep her from falling for the lies of evil men, but also pray that she see the danger she is in. We see her judgement has come and we honor it for what it is. We use this prayer time to ask for Gods protection.
Pray for 'a harvest of righteousness' ( 2 Corinthians 9:10 ) which is produced in their lives if they surrender to Jesus. Pray for his grace. Pray that your brother and sisters will choose to see their circumstances as gifts to accept Jesus and surrender to Him all of their heartaches.
Celebrate your boundaries and continue to avoid aiding them in doing evil. There is no blame on you for loving God more than these problems they have produced for you. Having gratitude to God about His purpose for you not having your sisters hardships is a gracious choice to have a good heart during your life. Your prayers are powerful with the blessings of your love and compassion without aiding them in doing evil. Seek forgiveness in Christ Jesus for every choice and be faithful to His word by following his instructions in love.
Despite all the circumstances, continue to renew your mind in God's Word and increase your trust in Jesus Christ. Hebrews 13:5 promises us in Jesus we will never be forsaken in His Word. This is the time of our greatest hope for all.
In all of our prayers, we find peace, love and hope in the presence of the Holy Spirit.
Do not hesitate to tell your siblings about our only salvation being through the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Fully understanding this in our hearts is freedom and rest for us all.
'We will extol the Lord at all times, His praise will always be on our lips'.
Praise be to God forever. In Jesus Name we pray.
Together in Christ Jesus, there is great hope and comfort.
