As an African American, I acknowledge and celebrate this day which marks the end of slavery for many Black people in America who, for two full years past the actual Constitutional decree, were illegally denied their right to freedom.

I have always found it ironic that the south, the susposed Bible belt of this nation, literally fought for the right to maintain racism, through the oppression of other people. Let that sink in. But, being from the south, I am all the more grateful, both as an African American and Christian, that God did not allow that evil to prevail.

One cannot be a Christian and exalt oppression in any form, including that which represents oppression. One such misrepresentation of Christianity, is displayed by one who holds up a bible, but seeks to oppress others by supressing their freedom of right to vote. Jesus' entire ministry was built on the very opposite of oppression. "He, whom the Son sets FREE, is FREE indeed."

True Christianity is not about holding up a Bible, it's about UPHOLDING the Word contained within the Bible.

Let Us Pray: God I ask You in Jesus’ name, please give Your children and Your church eyes to see and ears to hear how and where Your Holy Spirit is working on what is going on in our Nation concerning Covid-19, racism, and police brutality. God help each of us to see every person the way You see them. God, break our hearts for what breaks Yours. Let us not merely say that we love each other, but show it in our actions. Give us the strength and compassion to mourn with those who mourn and to weep with those who weep. God, let Your justice, righteousness, and love roll and flow from us like rivers of living water that never ends in this Nation. Lord purify our thoughts and hearts and fill us with a genuine hunger for Justice, Mercy, Truth, and True Peace. God let justice and mercy start with me, my home, my family, my church, and my neighborhood. God let racism and police brutality stop, and the system that set up systemic racism burn to the grown and die at the roots. In Jesus’ name, I pray.

I am from a northern state and my relatives were from counties that did not participate in slavery. My family has never had anything to do with that system. I am glad for freedom and equal opportunity in america, we should never have had the wicked institution of oppression in the first place. There were prophets who warned against it while we were transitioning from england but they did not win out 245 years ago. I am glad we dealt with it in the 1860s and the 350,000 white soldiers who died for the union in the civil war did not die in vain and the "good news" of the Emancipation Proclamation reached throughout the country. I hope no one whose family members died to free slaves is called a racist just because they are white, for that itself would be racist. I am glad President Lincoln did not die in vain. I am glad Dr MLK, Jr, did not die in vain. I am equally sad both died. I met Dr MLKing's son and told him how much I appreciated his father's work. He could tell I was sincere and thanked me. Of my five best friends, 2 are black, 1 spanish, 1 Irish and 1 just white, not even identifying his nationality other than american (4 are christian, I'm praying for the 1 other). I am more a "brother" to my saved black and spanish friends than my unsaved white friend. I would appreciate not being judged for the color of my skin, and I am sure there are many in all parts of america who would also enjoy the same courtesy. I honestly feel the opposite racism may actually be almost as big a problem at present. I pray for the end of all racism, that everyone is judged not by the color of their skin but by the content of their character, in Jesus' name.
