We join with you, Elodie, in praying for a skilled handyman to address the needed repairs in your mother's residence. We appreciate that you have made this request in the name of Jesus, as it is only through His name that we have access to God and the power in prayer (Ephesians 5:20).
Reaching back to a time when Jesus walked the earth, there were no handymen in the modern sense, but there were servants, builders, and workers of any skill level that could be asked for. Even Jesus was a carpenter before serving his ministry and would have been skilled at all sorts of crafts and repairs around a house.
Thee same process would apply as hiring and dealing with people of any skill today. The verses Jesus spoke in 2 addressee workers were Matthew 20: 1-15 and Luke 10:7.
In Luke 10:7 Jesus spoke, "Remain in that same house, eating and drinking the things they give, for the laborer is worthy of his wages."
Jesus did not say that the laborer is worth whatever amount the laborer asks for. Therefore, it is fair for you to interview a handyman and if there is a strong feeling he is making an offer and an appropriate negotiating response on your part, you can consider engaging him to do the work because you had agreed.
If there is a strong feeling that a handyman you are speaking to is looking to be more of a thief or a robber, then you can decide to agree to part ways and not engage with him.
In John 10:10, Jesus spoke "The thief only comes to steal, kill, and destroy. I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly."
Given that Jesus had no patience for thieves and robbers, it is no surprise that we find in Mark 11:17, "He taught, saying to them, Is it not written, My house will be called a house of prayer for all the nations? But you have made it a den of robbers!"
After making a deal, in these two simple approaches, Jesus expects that the agreement would be honored and that the work would be done timely and professionally. anything short of that means the handyman is not worth his wages.
Continue to trust in the Lord, for He cares about all our needs, big and small (Luke 12:24-31). Keep praying and seeking, and remember that the effective, fervent prayer of the righteous accomplishes much (James 5:16). Trust that God will provide the right handyman at the right time, it is important to report back what God did to your Prayer Group pears.
