Philippians 2: 3-11 "Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."

How does your wife look at you? Its a real questions, I don't have an answer to it because, I don't know your wife. Does your wife see you as arrogant or that you can never be wrong in an argument? Perhaps you don't know and think every thing in yourself is fine and you are already humble. Well if that is the case; guess what buddy? You need to look inside again because if you think your being humble and don't need to learn about humility, then that is exactly what you need to learn.

How humble was Jesus? He knew He was the son of God and what His purpose was here on earth, and He never rubbed it in to the people. No He taught love and forgiveness (A Huge Part Of Being Humble). He even humbled Himself to death on the cross for all of mankind. Now I am not saying that we need to die for God to save all of mankind to be humble, but I am saying we need to lay our lives down for God for the good of His word among all people. What is the difference you may ask? Well I think that is a good question, and I am glad you asked it.

1 John 3:16 "This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down His life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters."

John 15:13 "There is no greater love than to lay down one's life for one's friends"

Well we love God so what is the best way to show Him we love Him? Laying down our life for Him. Now once again laying down your life does not mean necessarily you need to die for someone, no it is basically putting their needs above yours. More importantly than laying down our lives for friends or our wives we need to lay down our lives for God. Which we did that when we where saved by grace (Ephesians 2:8) and laid down (put to death) our life of sin to follow Gods word and dedicate ourselves to Christ. Colossians 3: 5-6 "So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. DonÒ€ℒt be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world. Because of these sins, the anger of God is coming."
So there is the first part of the equation on being humble, Grace. We lay down our lives for God and Brothers and Sisters. How do we do this? By giving our lives to Him. And how are we saved so we can give our lives to Him? Threw Grace. Ok now lets carry on shall we.

Proverbs 11:2 "When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom."

OK you may ask yourself; how does humility and wisdom go hand in hand. What is wisdom? Well according to Proverbs 9:10 "The fear of the lord is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding." Nice we know what it takes to start with wisdom, but how do we fear the lord? Are we suppose to be scared of him, hide under the blankets afraid He is going to get us? No, and that is a silly idea, how could you even think that? He loves us and wont hurt us and He wants us to love him, and you cant love what your afraid of. So what is fearing God mean? Proverbs 8:13 "To fear the lord is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech." Easy enough I hate evil as well, so if we hate evil and evil things then we fear the Lord. Thank God that is easy, but wait there's more. Its not enough to just hate evil we must walk in a path that avoids evil desires (sin). Darn I knew it seemed to easy. So how do we control our desires of the flesh which always seem to be sinful? We walk in the spirit. Galatians 5:16 "So I say, walk by the spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh." OK but how do we walk in the spirit? Well as Proverbs 9:10 said about knowledge that its understanding. So with knowledge of the Word of God we know what is right or wrong, and if we listen to that voice in our head that says don't do that. Then guess what? Your walking in the spirit.

This does also take discipline and learning from the Word of God, after all disciple is in the word discipline and disciple means student. So we are to be disciples in the and of the Word of God.

Remember practice humility by being graceful and practicing wisdom by knowing the word of God. Next time your wife starts an argument or is pushing your buttons to try and get a rise out of you, instead of fighting with her agree with her. Say your right and I can see why you feel that way and I am sorry you feel that way. <-----(Laying down your own need to be right, for the needs of someone else).

Being humble is very hard especially in a world full of pride. Be careful not to put yourself down because when you do that then your also putting God down (We are created in His own image) Being humble isn't thinking less about yourself its thinking about yourself less.
Now before we go I want you to notice what both Grace and Wisdom had in common. Do you see it? Both of them is laying down sin and getting sin out of your life by trusting His Word and Him. And what one thing is a sin that we talked about a little bit here? I will give you a hint its the opposite of humbleness. Pride! Very good I was hoping you where paying attention.

Now her comes the word math again; if pride = sin, and sin = death. We must lay down our sins (death) by giving ourselves to God threw Grace and threw wisdom (Grace + wisdom) which causes us to not want to sin and walk in the spirit. And walking in the spirit is humbling yourself by denying the flesh of its worldly desires, and we walk in the spirit by grace and wisdom in His Word. So

Grace plus Wisdom equals Humility.

Pride plus Sin equals Death.

Your choice

Thank You and God Bless
