You don't punish the innocent for how God chooses to respond to your foolishness. Whether through disobedience, idolatry, or mockery, God’s enemies are those who insult Him.
MOCKERS STIR UP A CITY
If you make fun of poor people, you insult the God who made them. You will be punished if you take pleasure in someone's misfortune. (Proverbs 17:5, GNT)
FOOLS PERSIST IN FOLLY
But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy. (2 Chronicles 36:16)
BUT GOD IS NOT MOCKED
What is all the commotion in the city? What is that terrible noise from the Temple? It is the voice of the Lord taking vengeance against his enemies. (Isaiah 66:6, NLT)
HE ALREADY KNOWS
Now I will expose your so-called good deeds. None of them will help you. Let’s see if your idols can save you when you cry to them for help. Why, a puff of wind can knock them down! If you just breathe on them, they fall over! But whoever trusts in me will inherit the land and possess my Holy mountain.” (Isaiah 12-13)
God Forgives the Repentant:
But to the unrepentant, you will reap, measure for measure, exactly what you sow; even unto one of the least of these, and especially to His messengers. For vengeance does not belong to a city....
Vengeance, saith the LORD belong to ME.
