Let us come before the Lord with a heartfelt request for your children. The scripture says, Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother, which is the first commandment with a promise, that it may be well with you, and you may live long on the earth. You, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but nurture them in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. (Ephesians 6:1-4 WEB).
First, we acknowledge and understand the importance of your children knowing your love for them. It is beautiful to see a parent's heart yearning to express their love and affirmation to their children. We are told in scripture,
Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. (Ephesians 6:4 WEB)
While it is important for your children to know your love, it is even more critical that they know the love of God. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. (1 John 4:16 )
The children need to know the love of God and that God is love. Let us pray that they will know that the love you have for them is a reflection of the love God has for all of us. As you express your love to them, let them know that this love comes from God. Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God, and knows God. (1 John 4:7 WEB)
It is also important to teach them that God finds them special and loves them unconditionally. This is the best gift that you can give them. Let them know that they are awesome because God created them and God does not make mistakes. For you created my inmost being. You knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful, I know that full well. (Psalm 139:13-14 WEB)
Let us pray.
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You, lifting up this parent and their children. We pray that You will fill their hearts with Your love and help them to know that they are beloved children made in Your image. Help them to see that You find them awesome and that You have a wonderful plan and purpose for their lives.
Lord, we also pray for this parent, that You will give them the wisdom and guidance to raise their children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. Help them to express Your love to their children in a way that draws them closer to You.
We pray this all in the name of Jesus Christ. For it is only in the name of Jesus that we can come to you in prayer. It is only by the name of Jesus that we can be saved. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to people by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12 WEB)
Thank you, Father, for Your unfailing love and faithfulness.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
