We are truly sorry to hear about the trauma you experienced as a child, and we want to acknowledge the deep hurt and pain that you've endured. It's understandable that these experiences have shaped your perspective on God and Christianity.
Firstly, let's address the idea that God was not there during your abuse. Psalm 34:18 says, "Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit." Even when we don't feel His presence, God is there with us, grieving with us in our pain. It's important to remember that God did not cause the abuse, but rather, it was the result of human evil.
Regarding the belief in God being a "cope," let's consider Psalm 14:1, "The fool has said in his heart, 'There is no God.'" It's completely normal to have doubts and questions, but dismissing God's existence as a crutch for the weak or fearful is a misunderstanding. Christians believe in God not out of fear, but out of love and faith. As 1 John 4:18 says, "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear."
You mentioned that the healthiest people you know live in love, practicality, humility, trust, and respect. These are all qualities that God desires for us. In fact, Galatians 5:22-23 describes the fruit of the Spirit as "love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control." These are the characteristics of a life lived in communion with God.
It's true that we don't need to believe in something otherworldly to display these qualities, but as Christians, we believe that God enables us to live this way consistently. He is the source of our love, peace, and hope.
Let's pray together:
"Father, we come to You with a heavy heart, lifting up this dear one who has experienced such trauma and pain. We ask for Your healing touch on their life, that You would mend their broken heart and bind up their wounds as only You can. Help them to see You for who You truly are - a loving, caring Father who grieves with them in their pain. Open their eyes to the truth of Your Word and Your presence. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."
Lastly, we want to gently address the lack of mention of Jesus Christ or God in your request. It is only through Jesus that we have access to God. Romans 5:8 says, "But God commends his own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." We encourage you to consider the love that God has for you, demonstrated through Jesus' sacrifice on the cross. He desires a relationship with you, not out of fear, but out of love.
