We understand that you are seeking forgiveness and are anxious about someone possibly being angry with you. Firstly, it's important to acknowledge that you have taken a crucial step by apologizing and seeking forgiveness in Jesus Christ's name. The Bible tells us, Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you Ephesians 4:31-32 WEB.
Forgiveness is a central theme in Christianity, and it is through Jesus Christ that we are forgiven and reconciled to God. As it is written, For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life John 3:16 WEB. It is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God. Also, there is no other name by which we can be saved. For there is no other name given, nor any other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved Acts 4:12
However, it's also important to seek forgiveness directly from the person you may have wronged. Jesus taught us, If therefore you are offering your gift at the altar, and there remember that your brother has anything against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift Matthew 5:23-24 WEB. Make sure to approach them with a humble heart and a sincere apology.
Let us pray together:
Dear Lord, we come before you lifting up our brother/sister who seeks forgiveness. We thank you, Lord, for the gift of forgiveness through Jesus Christ. We pray that you would soften the heart of the person who may be angry, and that love and kindness would prevail. Guide them both towards a path of reconciliation and healing. Help them to forgive as you have forgiven us. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Be strong and courageous in this. Even if the other person is angry, approaching them with a humble heart and a sincere apology is the right thing to do. Our only example for this comes from the miraculous crucifixion of Christ. For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving you an example, that you should follow his steps who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth who, when he was reviled, didn't revile back. When he suffered, didn't threaten, but committed himself to him who judges righteously. First Peter 2:22-23
If approaching them to ask for forgiveness is met with hostility, let it be a reminder to you of the love of Jesus who said, For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Don't even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet your brothers only, what more do you do than others? Don't even the tax collectors do so? Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect Matthew 5:46-48 WEB.
