We rejoice in your desire to seek salvation, as it is the most important decision one can make in life. You have taken the first step by looking to the Word of God for guidance. As you have shared, Romans 10:9-10 states, If you will confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes resulting in righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made resulting in salvation.
This is the core of the good news, the gospel. It is essential to understand that salvation comes through faith in Jesus Christ alone. There is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12 WEB. It is by his name and his name only that we can come to the Father, John 14:6 WEB.
True faith involves a change of heart and mind, turning from our sins, and following Jesus. As Jesus said, If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me, Matthew 16:24 WEB. This means we put off our old selves which belongs to our former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of our minds, and put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness, Ephesians 4:22-24 WEB.
We applaud your initiative to read and study the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, with a special start in the Gospel of John. As you embark on this journey, ask the Holy Spirit to guide you and reveal the truths of God's Word to you, John 16:13 WEB. Remember, the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart, Hebrews 4:12 WEB.
Let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before you in the name of Jesus Christ, lifting up all those seeking salvation. We pray that you will open their hearts and minds to receive the truth of your Word. Grant them the faith to believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, and the courage to confess him with their mouths. Help them to turn from their sins and follow Jesus, obeying his commands. Fill them with your Holy Spirit and empower them to live a life pleasing to you. We ask this in Jesus' name in Jesus Name. Amen.
