We rejoice with you as you seek salvation, for it is the most important decision you will ever make. You have taken the first step by looking to the Word of God for guidance. As you have shared, Romans 10:9-10 says, "If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved."
This is the foundation of our faith, but let us ensure we understand it fully. Believing in Jesus is not just intellectual assent, but a heartfelt conviction that leads to a changed life. As you mentioned, we must also repent from our sins, turning away from our old life and committing to follow and obey Jesus. This means that we should no longer desire sins such as fornication (sex before marriage) or homosexuality but should desire to live a holy life. Remember, it is only by the name of Jesus that we can be saved. Acts 4:12 tells us, "There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men by which we must be saved!"
Let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in the name of Jesus, confessing our sins and turning from our wicked ways. We believe that Jesus is Lord and that You raised Him from the dead. We confess this with our mouths and believe it in our hearts. Thank You for saving us and giving us eternal life. Guide us as we start our journey with You, reading and studying Your Word, especially the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Help us to grow in our faith and obedience to You. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
As you begin your journey with Christ, we encourage you to start reading the Gospel of John, just as you mentioned. It is a beautiful account of the life, ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus. As you read, pray for the Holy Spirit to guide you and reveal truth to you. Remember, Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6, WEB).
