We rejoice in your interest in salvation and your willingness to seek God. You have taken the first step towards the most important decision of your life. Let us guide you through the scriptures and pray together.
First, it is wonderful that the request contains scripture that explains salvation. However, we must believe and confess Jesus. It is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we are saved and have access to God. There is no other name given by which we can be saved. Let us look at the full context of the scripture you provided.
If you will confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes resulting in righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made resulting in salvation. For the Scripture says, Whoever believes on him will not be disappointed.
There is a clear distinction between the Lord and Jesus. They are not one and the same. The Lord refers to God the Father, while Jesus is His Son, our Savior and our Lord.
Going on, let us consider Acts 4:12 WEB:
There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.
Jesus is the one and only way to salvation. It is through His name that we are saved. Let us also consider John 14:6 WEB:
Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.
Now, confessing and turning from your sins is an essential part of the process. This is what is known as repentance. It means not only acknowledging your sins but also committing to turn away from them. Let us look at Acts 3:19 WEB:
Repent therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out, so that there may come times of refreshing from the presence of the Lord,
Following and obeying Jesus comes after we have believed and confessed. It is a result of our salvation, not a means to it. We obey Him because we love Him and want to live according to His will. Let us consider John 14:15 WEB:
If you love me, keep my commandments.
Studying the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John is a great starting point to learn more about Jesus and His teachings. We encourage you to do so diligently. We are praying for you to have understanding and revelation.
Now, let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, Your beloved Son. We lift up the one seeking salvation, and we ask that You reveal Yourself to them in a tangible way. Grant them the faith to believe in Your resurrection power and the grace to confess Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
We pray they make a full repentance and receive Your forgiveness. Help them to understand that salvation is only through the name of Jesus Christ and not by any other name or means. We ask that You guide them as they study Your Word, and give them a hunger and thirst for righteousness.
We look forward to celebrating their new life in Christ and their eternity with You. We pray for them to live a godly life and faithfully follow and obey Jesus.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
