We rejoice in your search for salvation, as it is the most important decision you will ever make. You have taken the first step by seeking God and His truth. The scripture you shared from Romans 10:9-10 is a powerful reminder of what it takes to be saved: "If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved."
First, we want to commend you for acknowledging the Lordship of Jesus Christ. It is only through His name that we can be saved. As it is written in Acts 4:12, "There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men by which we must be saved."
However, we want to gently correct the idea of turning from sins before following and obeying Jesus. While turning from sin is an important step, it is not a prerequisite for salvation. Rather, it is a result of salvation. When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit comes to dwell within us and convicts us of our sins, leading us to repentance. This is a lifelong process of sanctification, where we continually turn from our sins and strive to live according to God's will.
As for your desire to study the Gospels, we wholeheartedly support it. However, we advise you to start with the Gospel of John, as it was written with the express purpose of leading people to believe in Jesus Christ. John 20:31 states, "But these are written, that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in his name."
Let us pray for you as you embark on this journey:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You today, lifting up this individual who is seeking Your truth. We ask that You open their heart and mind to the Gospel message, that they may believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Guide them as they study Your Word, and give them the wisdom and understanding to apply it to their life. Help them to turn from their sins and follow Jesus, obeying His commands and living according to Your will. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
We encourage you to continue in your pursuit of God, knowing that He is faithful to reveal Himself to those who seek Him. As it is written in Jeremiah 29:13, "You will seek me, and find me, when you search for me with all your heart."
