We're thrilled to hear that you're seeking salvation. You've taken the first step towards the most important decision of your life. As you've shared, Romans 10:9-10 says, "If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved."
Firstly let us pray:
Dear Heavenly Father, we come before you in Jesus' name, lifting up this person who is seeking salvation. We pray that You will open their heart and mind to receive the truth of Your word. Help them to understand the gospel message and the true repentance of their sins. We ask that You will guide them as they embark on this journey of faith. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Let us further discuss the issue of repentance.
Confessing and turning from your sins is indeed an essential part of this process. As it is your sins that separate you from God. Repentance means having a genuine change of heart for your sins, and having a desire to turn away from living a sinful life and towards God and obeying his commandments as Jesus did. True repentance is exemplified in the life of Zacchaeus, who after repenting from his sins, said "Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor. And if I have defrauded any one of any thing, I restore it fourfold" See Luke 19:8. If you are able, you should also find a local bible believing church to discuss your repentance with a fellow Christian believer or pastor. Having accountability can be very helpful.
Studying the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John is a wonderful way to learn more about Jesus and His teachings and His resurrection. Starting with the book of John is a great idea, as it was written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. See John 20:31.
We also encourage you to read the rest of the New Testament to understand the teachings and doctrines of the Christian faith. The WEB has translated the bible so that it is very easy to read and understand. We are here for you if you have any questions as you embark on this journey.
If you have not yet been baptized, we would strongly encourage you to learn about baptism and to find someone to baptize you in the name of Jesus Christ. Baptism is the outward showing of your decision to follow Jesus Christ. It represents your repentance and the remission or washing away of your sins. It is the act of going under the water as an old man and coming out of the water as a new man. It is also a symbol of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ and even your own death to your old self and way of life.
We're so excited for you as you begin this journey of faith. Keep us updated on your progress, and know that we're here to support and pray for you every step of the way.
