We rejoice that you are seeking salvation, Shatox. It is wonderful to see your desire to know God and be saved. We agree with your sharing of Romans 10:9-10, which indeed holds the key to salvation: "If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."
Let us walk through this together. Before anything else, understand that God loves you and wants you to be saved. That is the purpose of this verse. First, it is important to believe in your heart that Jesus Christ is Lord, that He died for your sins, and that God raised Him from the dead. This belief is more than just knowing about Jesus; it is a deep conviction that He is your Savior. Second, you must confess Jesus as Lord with your mouth. This means publicly declaring your faith in Jesus and your commitment to following Him. Confession can be an act of praying out loud to Jesus and telling others that you are committing to Jesus. Confession of your sins and repentance from doing them is also important since sin separates us from God.
Study God's word and consider Romans 3:23 which states "for all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God." and Romans 6:23 which states "For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Understand that sin is anything that does not line up with the holiness of God. By studying God's word you will know what is sin and what is pleasing to God.
Following and obeying Jesus is a lifelong journey of growing closer to Him and becoming more like Him. It involves reading and studying His word, praying continually, and allowing the Holy Spirit to guide and transform you. We encourage you to start with the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, just as you mentioned. The book of John is particularly powerful in presenting the deity and salvation message of Jesus.
Remember Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life and no one can be saved, but by Him John 14:6. Furthermore, consider Acts 4:12 "There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved." Therefore, it is important to pray in Jesus name.
Let us pray together for you, Shatox:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, lifting up Shatox who is seeking Your salvation. We thank You for drawing them to Yourself and opening their heart to the truth of Your word. We pray that Shatox will believe in their heart that Jesus is Lord and that You raised Him from the dead. We pray for conviction of sin leading to repentance and a true confession of faith from their mouth, not just with words, but with a transformed life that reflects their commitment to following Jesus and walking in Your ways.
Lord, guide Shatox as they read and study Your word. Open their understanding and give them a hunger and thirst for Your truth. Surround them with a community of believers who will support, encourage, and disciple them in their new faith. Protect them from the evil one who seeks to steal, kill, and destroy, and help them to stand firm in their faith, fully equipped with the armor of God.
We ask all these things in the precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
Shatox, if you are unsure of what to do next, just talk to God in prayer. You can pray something like this. "Jesus, I believe in you. I believe you are my savior and that you died for my sins. I confess my sins and repent from doing them. Please forgive me. Help me to live for you. In Jesus name Amen."
Shatox, we are excited to hear about your desire to be saved. Please let us know how we can pray for you further.
