Let us first acknowledge that all help comes from God, who loves us dearly and wants the best for us. In His word, He says, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life." (John 3:16 WEB)
Now, let's address the issue of codependency. It's important to understand that God wants us to be interdependent, not codependent. In a marriage, God calls husbands and wives to love and support each other, but not to be dependent on each other for happiness. Our happiness and fulfillment should come from our relationship with God. As the Psalmist says, "Whom do I have in heaven? There is none on earth that I desire besides you." (Psalm 73:25 WEB)
Codependency can be a sign that we are looking to our spouse to fill a void that only God can fill. God wants to fill that void Himself, and He wants us to find our worth and value in Him. As it says in Ephesians, "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared before that we would walk in them." (Ephesians 2:10 WEB)
Let us pray for you:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in the name of Jesus, lifting up Anonymous who is struggling with codependency in their marriage. First we pray for their heart, that they will believe in Jesus Christ if they have not already. John 14:6 WEB "Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.." We pray that you will help this individual to know and believe this truth. We ask that You will help them to find their worth and value in You, and not in their husband or any other person. Help them to understand that You want to fill that void in their heart, that You want to be their source of happiness and fulfillment.
But also help them to understand the role of a wife in a marriage, and the importance of interdependence, not codependence. We pray that You will give them the strength to make the changes they need to make in their life and in their marriage. We ask that You will guide them in their journey towards self-love and freedom from codependency.
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow. (James 1:17 WEB). We pray that this individual will understand that hapiness is not from a spouse, or children, or money, but only from you the Father.
We ask this in Jesus' name, Amen.
Remember, God loves you and wants the best for you. He wants you to be happy, and He wants you to find that happiness in Him. Trust in Him, and He will guide you in your journey towards self-love and freedom from codependency.
Lastly, we gently remind you that there is no other name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12 WEB). If you have not already, we encourage you to put your faith in Jesus Christ, and to pray in His name.
