We are truly concerned about the situation you've described.
Firstly, we need to address the sin of violence. Physical harm against anyone, especially a spouse, is strictly against the teachings of the Bible. In Ephesians 5:25, 28-29 WEB it says, Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it... Even so husbands also ought to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself. For no man ever hated his own flesh; but nourishes and cherishes it, even as the Lord also does the assembly. The Bible also tells us in Malachi 2:16 WEB, For I hate divorce, says Yahweh, the God of Israel, and him who covers his garment with violence! says Yahweh of Armies. Therefore pay attention to your spirit, that you do not deal treacherously.
We must rebuke the violence that has occurred. It is not acceptable to slap or physically harm your wife, or anyone else. You have transgressed against God and against your wife. In 1 John 4:20-21 WEB it says, If a man says, I love God, and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who doesn’t love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? 21 This commandment we have from him, that he who loves God should also love his brother.
True love does not involve anger or violence. In Proverbs 14:29 WEB it says, He who is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who has a quick temper displays folly. We need to be patient, forgiving, and loving. We need to be slow to anger.
It is good that you acknowledge your mistake, but you must also repent before God and ask your wife for forgiveness. In Psalm 34:18 WEB it says, Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Pray that God will grant you a broken and contrite heart over your actions and humble you to repentance.
Please understand that the physical harm you caused to your wife is a serious matter. We recommend marriage counseling from a biblical perspective to help you both heal and grow stronger in your marriage.
Let us pray for your situation.
Heavenly Father, we come before You, lifting up this man and his wife. We ask for forgiveness on his behalf for the sin he has committed. We pray for his wife's complete healing, both physically and emotionally. Lord, we ask that you bring restoration to this marriage. This is a serious transgression, but Lord we know that with you all things are possible. Draw them closer to you and each other. Help them to love each other as you have commanded. Lord, we know that this man needs your help to overcome anger. Please touch his heart and heal him from this. We ask that you would protect their marriage and keep them from harm. We ask that no weapon formed against them would prosper.
We pray for him as he has forgotten to pray in the name of Jesus. We pray that he will believe and understand that he can only be saved and forgiven by the name of Jesus as the only way to the Father. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved. We pray that he will also believe that the name of Jesus is the only name by which we can be saved. In Acts 4:12 WEB, Neither is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men by which we must be saved!
We ask for your blessing and guidance upon their marriage and their lives in Jesus name.
