Matthew 8:19-20
19. And a certain scribe came, and said unto him, Master, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.
20. And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
21. And another of his disciples said unto him, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.
22. But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.
King James Version

COMMENTARY

The proverbial whirlwind is blowing against the leaves of the trees sending them flying about. Only the few strong ones remain. It is not easy for mortal man to remain steadfast in righteousness but with God all things are possible. God wants a committed follower.
In the above verses we see how difficult things can be as Christians. The first part deals with a scribe who wants to follow Jesus. Our Lord was informing and outright warning this scribe that there was no worldly advantages or comforts in following him. He had no place to rest His head in contrast to the animals which did. How humbling!
Then a disciple stated that He would follow Jesus once he buried his father. But Jesus implied to the disciple; to leave the business of the world to those who are dead in God. Those who are spiritually dead will deal with the funeral arrangements of those who have physically died.
Wow! How would you have done if you were the ones in the scribe and disciple's shoes (sandals)? Can we follow Jesus without comfort or without dealing with our personal issues first ? God want's your full attention. He will not share His first place status with anyone. But God is faithful.
My friends don't let those worldly treasures or worldly troubles seize your heart. Great things will surely come. You have fought a good fight of faith, don't give up.
Praise our God that His grace is upon us. Anything is indeed possible through our Lord.
Finish your race!

Follow the Lord all the way to heaven. No matter what troubles may come or hindrance will be on your path, continue on just as Paul the apostle did. Never ever give it up. Keep trying, keep your eyes on Jesus. I will reach my goal and absolutely nothing will stop me. I want to see Jesus smiling face welcoming me at the gates of heaven.
