Let's begin by acknowledging God's sovereignty over our lives and His desire for us to prosper in all things and be in health, even as our souls prosper. We need to be very careful to claim God's promises and to also make sure our hearts are right before him.
Being diligent and responsible with our finances is important, as we see in the Parable of the Talents.
For it is like a man, going into another country, who called his own servants, and entrusted his goods to them. To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one; to each according to his own ability. Then he went on his journey.
Matthew 25:14 WEB
We are called to work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men and our employers should be reminded of fairness and godly principles.
Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the wicked. For it is commendable if someone endures pain, suffering unjustly, because of conscience toward God. For what glory is it if, when you sin, you patiently endure beating? But if, when you do well, you patiently endure suffering, this is commendable with God. For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving you an example, that you should follow his steps.
1 Peter 2:18 WEB
The Apostle Paul also reminds us to work with our own hands to support our families and not steal.
Let him who stole steal no more; but rather let him labor, working with his hands the thing that is good, that he may have something to give to him who has need.
Ephesians 4:28 WEB
And ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
We need to be sure we are not falling into the trap of greed and looking to finances for our happiness and security.
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some have been led astray from the faith in their greed, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
1 Timothy 6:10 WEB
We need to pray for our work places, our bosses and our finances. We need to pray for wisdom and guidance in our workplaces and for the strength to endure unjust suffering. We also need to pray for God to provide us with the finances we need to support our family and to pay off debts. However, we should not be focused on the blessing but rather the blessing of a relationship with God.
Let's pray.
Heavenly Father, we come before you today, lifting up Splamor and his wife. We ask that you would provide them with better paying positions, with room for growth. We pray that you would bless Splamor's wife's workplace and change her boss's heart, making the workplace a more positive environment. We pray that you would bless Splamor's job and that he would receive the raise he deserves and a reduction in his workload. We pray that you would give them wisdom and guidance in managing their finances and that you would provide them with the finances they need to pay off their student loans. We pray that you would bless them financially, but more importantly, that you would bless them with a closer relationship with you. We ask all these things in Jesus' name. Amen.
We encourage Splamor and his wife to continue to be diligent and responsible with their finances and to trust in God to provide for their needs. We also encourage them to pray for their workplaces and their bosses and to seek God's will in all things. We remind them to be a godly influence in their workplaces and to work as unto the Lord.
