Feelings can be fickle and aren't always accurate. Are your feelings lining up with what is true or are your feelings having a field day with your mind. The enemy likes to sneak into any cracks you have with your emotional state and put thoughts in your head. Then you keep replaying those thoughts over and over and it starts to build and grow into something that seems enormous and more than likely none of it is true.
I call this the snowball effect. You start with a thought and you are on a snowy hill, as the thought (snowball) starts off it is small. As you dwell on it, it keeps rolling and getting bigger and bigger, it starts picking up momentum and by the time it is at the bottom of the hill, it is a huge boulder of snow and ice and it is hard to stop. What if after it starts to take off at the top of the hill, you run down and stop it. It is about the size of a grapefruit and is easily stoppable. Just like our thoughts. If you start going down the hill with your thoughts and don't stop them right away it is much harder to deal with them once you have let them get out of control.
You don't have to believe your thoughts!!! I know that is hard to grasp that concept but I have learned that you don't have to believe everything you think.
The Bible states to take every thought captive. So how do you do that? The first thing you need to do is to recognize it. Once you recognize it you can make the effort to start redirecting your thoughts to line up with what God says. I dealt with the spirit of rejection which made me have thoughts that I only perceived as being true. If someone didn't talk to me or seemed to ignore me, my thoughts would start telling me they don't like me, I am no good, no one cares about me! All of these are lies from the pit of hell. The enemy wants nothing more than to make you feel worthless and wounded. The bitterness starts to set in and then anger. Soon you find yourself alone and isolated just where the enemy wants you to be. You build walls around yourself for protection. We need to tear down our self made walls so Godly walls can be erected. Without Godly walls we are vulnerable to attack.
Every believer has the Holy Spirit living inside of them. Greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world! We don't have the power to defeat the enemy but Jesus does and He has already defeated him by dying on the cross for us. God has already given us the weapons in His word to use. We need to grab hold of those weapons and use them. If we don't keep our Godly walls sealed tightly and they start crumbling then we let the enemy in.
Don't let the darkness overtake you, walk while you still have the light. The man who walks in the dark does not know where he is going. John 12:35
