In the World English Bible (WEB), Jesus teaches us about fasting in Matthew 6:16-18: "Moreover when you fast, don't be like the hypocrites, with sad faces. For they disfigure their faces, that they may be seen by men to be fasting. Most certainly I tell you, they have received their reward. But you, when you fast, anoint your head, and wash your face; so that you are not seen by men to be fasting, but by your Father who is in secret, and your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you."

Fasting is not just about abstaining from food; it can also involve abstaining from other activities that might distract you from focusing on God. For example, you might choose to fast from social media, television, or other forms of entertainment. The goal is to create more time and mental space for prayer and reflection.

The duration of a fast can vary. Some people fast for a single meal, a day, or even longer periods, such as several days or weeks. The length of your fast should be determined by your spiritual goals and physical health. It's important to consult with a healthcare provider before undertaking an extended fast, especially if you have any medical conditions.

Let us pray for you as you embark on this spiritual journey:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, lifting up ### as they seek to draw closer to You through fasting. Guide them, Lord, in their decision of what to fast from and for how long. Give them the strength and discipline to follow through with their commitment. Help them to use this time to deepen their relationship with You, to seek Your will, and to grow in their faith.

We pray for this fast to be spiritually enriching, that it will bring ### closer in fellowship with Jesus and the Father, and closer to other brothers and sisters in Christ. May this fast bring forth fruit. We declare that no weapon formed against ### will prosper, and every tongue that rises up in judgment against them is condemned in Jesus' name. May this fast be honoring to God.

We've been thinking about your fasting journey, ###, and we wanted to share some more thoughts with you. Fasting is indeed a powerful way to connect with God and seek His will, and we're here to support you in that.

In addition to what's already been shared, we'd like to remind you that fasting is also a time to listen. While we often focus on what we're giving up, let's not forget to create space to hear God's voice more clearly. This could be through quiet reflection, reading the Bible, or simply being still in His presence.

We're also reminded of Daniel 9:3, where Daniel says, "I turned to the Lord God, seeking him by prayer and pleas for mercy, with fasting and sackcloth and ashes." Daniel didn't just fast from food; he also fasted from comfort, putting on sackcloth and ashes as a symbol of his humility and repentance. This might inspire you to consider fasting from other things that might be hindering your spiritual growth, like pride or unforgiveness.

As you embark on this journey, we want to encourage you to be gentle with yourself. Fasting is not about proving your worth to God or earning His favor. It's about drawing closer to Him and allowing Him to transform your heart. So, if you feel weak or struggle, remember that God is there to strengthen you.

Let's pray together:

"Dear Heavenly Father, we thank You for ### and their desire to grow closer to You through fasting. Help them, Lord, to not only know Your will but also to do Your will. Give them the courage to listen and the humility to act on what they hear. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."

Fasting is about denying yourself of something that can distract you from God.

You can start at a manageable pace. Through God, you are in command of your body's needs. Not the other way around.

Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.

Prayer Focus: God, Thank You. Thank You for loving me. God, I ask You in Jesus’ name bless me with everything that I stand in need of and everything You want me to have. Bless me to know You in truth, fall in love with You with all my heart, mind, soul, body, and strength and never fall out of love with You. Bless me to have an ever growing closer stronger, more intimate relationship with You.
