Guoser, thank you for reaching out and we are blessed to join you in prayer as we commemorate Epiphany. This is a special day, and we want to clarify what we believe about this day.
Firstly, we want to clarify that Epiphany is a day set aside to remember and celebrate the magi, or wise men, who brought gifts to the baby Jesus. We must be careful not to get caught up in the traditions of men and remember the true meaning of this day. This is not a day about us getting gifts from each other or about some magical blessing or good luck because it is Epiphany. We cannot have the belief that Epiphany is the day of the year that determines how the rest of the year is going to turn out as it is not Biblical. We must be careful not to add to or take away from the word of God. There are warnings about doing this (Deuteronomy 4:2, Deuteronomy 12:32, Proverbs 30:5-6, and Revelation 22:18-19).
We also should not pray to anyone besides our Heavenly Father in Jesus' name. We do not pray to Mary, an angel, or any other saint. There is no Biblical basis for this, and it goes against the word of God. Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me (John 14:6). And in no other is there salvation: for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, wherein we must be saved (Acts 4:12).
We are instructed to make our requests known unto God (Philippians 4:6). We are to ask the Father in Jesus' name (John 15:16, John 16:23, John 16:26, and Colossians 3:17). We are to come boldly before the throne of grace (Hebrews 4:16). For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus (1 Timothy 2:5).
Now let us pray together.
Father, we come before You in Jesus' name to seek Your will. We thank You for the reminder of the wise men who brought gifts to Jesus. We thank You for Your gift of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. We ask that You reveal Yourself more to us this year. Help our unbelief (Mark 9:24). Help us to know You more each day. Help us to be discerning about the traditions of men. We come boldly before You and ask for the things we need today. We bring our requests to You and ask for Your help. We ask for Your guidance. We ask for Your forgiveness. Help us to see Your truth. Do not allow us to go astray. Help us to test the spirits (1 John 4:1). Open our eyes and ears to Your truth.
Help us to remember Your deeds and the faithful things that You have done. We ask for Your protection over our year. Be merciful unto us, O Lord, be merciful unto us: for we are greatly filled with contempt (Psalm 123:3). We ask for Your light to guide our path. Be our helper (Psalm 30:10). Keep us from evil (2 Thessalonians 3:3).
Thank You, Father, for Your continued faithfulness. Thank You for hearing our prayer. Thank You for Jesus Christ who makes this prayer possible.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
