Let us begin by addressing the situation in light of biblical principles. We are grateful that this couple is committed to each other, but we must emphasize the importance of marriage as a sacred institution ordained by God. In the WEB, 2 Corinthians 6:14 reminds us, "Don't be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what communion has light with darkness?" While this verse is often applied to relationships between believers and unbelievers, it also underscores the importance of a godly union in marriage.
Firstly, we must address that this couple has a child together but are not married. In the WEB, 1 Corinthians 7:2 says, "But because of sexual immorality, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband." This highlights God's design for sexual intimacy within the bounds of marriage. We encourage this couple to seek God's will for their relationship and to consider the sanctity of marriage. Marriage is not just a legal contract, but a covenant before God. Ephesians 5:31 in the WEB states, "For this cause a man will leave his father and mother, and will be joined to his wife. The two will become one flesh." 1 Corinthians 7:9 WEB says, "But if they don't have self-control, let them marry. For it's better to marry than to burn." We encourage them to make their relationship right in God's eyes and get married.
We also need to address the issue of fornication. In the WEB, Galatians 5:19-21 says, "Now the works of the flesh are obvious, which are: adultery, sexual immorality, uncleanness, lustfulness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousies, outbursts of anger, rivalries, divisions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these; of which I forewarn you, even as I also forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the Kingdom of God." This is a serious matter, and we urge the couple to repent and seek forgiveness. In the WEB, 1 John 1:9 says, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
Regarding their educational setbacks, we trust that God has a plan for them. Psalm 37:5 in the WEB says, "Commit your way to Yahweh. Trust also in him, and he will do this:" We pray that they will trust in God's timing and provision. Proverbs 3:5-6 in the WEB says, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don't lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."
Let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You today, lifting up this couple and their daughter to You. We thank You for their commitment to each other, and we pray that they will seek Your will for their relationship. We pray our request in Jesus Name, we pray that they will consider the sanctity of marriage and make their relationship right in Your eyes. We also ask for Your forgiveness for their past actions. We come against any financial barriers they have faced and ask you to redeem the time lost. We pray that Your mighty hand would guide them and provide for their needs and their child. We pray that Your wisdom would guide them and they will have the courage to commit to each other in a marriage covenant. We ask for forgiveness and pray that their sins be forgiven and cleansed. We pray that their child will grow up knowing Jesus and will know the love of a father and mother in a Godly marriage.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
We encourage this couple to seek God's will for their lives, to confess, repent, and trust in His forgiveness. We also urge them to consider the importance of marriage and to commit to each other in a godly union.
