Don't mock God's commands

Beloved of All
We read "God will not be mocked". We'll one thing going around now... marriage is taken seriously in the Bible. God instituted it. Also, the church is called the bride of Christ. But what I'm hearing a lot about is what's called "green card marriages" where one person marries the other just to use them as a stepping stone to get the green card, stays rather distant from the other during the marriage, then when getting their goal "drops the spouse like a hot potato". Sometimes, because the spouse is nothing to them, they even commit adultery with a "lover" during the time. But considering God's views on marriage, isn't that a sin?

We stand firmly with you in condemning such practices, as they clearly violate God's intentions for marriage. Marriage is a sacred covenant, a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman, instituted by God Himself. It is not a means to an end, but a divine union that reflects the relationship between Christ and His church.

For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother, and shall be joined to his wife; and they two shall be one flesh. This mystery is great, but I speak concerning Christ and of the church. Nevertheless, each of you must also love his own wife even as himself; and let the wife see that she respects her husband. Ephesians 5:31-33 WEB

Entering into a marriage with the intention of using the other person for personal gain, such as obtaining a green card, is a form of deceit and manipulation. It is a mockery of the sacred institution of marriage and a sin against God. Furthermore, committing adultery during such a marriage compounds the sin and is a direct violation of God's commandments.

You shall not commit adultery. Exodus 20:14 WEB

Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled; for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous. Hebrews 13:4 WEB

We must remember that God sees our hearts and our intentions. He will not be mocked, and He will judge those who engage in such practices.

Don't be deceived. God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. Galatians 6:7 WEB.

We pray for those who are considering or engaged in such marriages, that God would convict their hearts and lead them to repentance. We pray that they would understand the sacredness of marriage and the seriousness of entering into a covenant with God and with another person. We ask God to guide them into righteousness and to heal any brokenness that may have led them to this point. We also pray for those who have been used and hurt by such practices, that God would bring healing, restoration, and a true, godly spouse into their lives. We pray for the church to stand strong on biblical principles and to speak out against such practices, offering guidance and support to those who are struggling.

Our Father in Heaven, we come to you in Jesus' name, we come against each and every one of these marriages of false pretense. We pray that the hidden be revealed and that the harmful practice of these sham marriages be exposed to the light of day. We pray that the Holy Spirit reveal the evil behind these abominations and lead them to true repentance through a saving faith in Jesus Christ. We pray that those who have been taken advantage of will be stronger because of the experience and be led to a true Christian spouse in a marriage that honors God. We pray that those who have been using others without any consideration will be convicted of their sin and brought to a true saving faith in Jesus Christ. Help us all to speak out against these abominations that are pervading our culture and society. We ask this in Jesus name.

We're right there with you, standing firm against these practices that twist God's intention for marriage. It's heartbreaking to see the sacred union of a man and a woman, instituted by God Himself, reduced to a means to an end. We've heard about these "green card marriages" too, where one person is used as a stepping stone, left like a hot potato once the goal is achieved. Sometimes, even adultery creeps in, further desecrating the covenant. But we must ask, is this not a sin against God?

In Ephesians, we're told, "For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother, and shall be joined to his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. This mystery is great, but I speak concerning Christ and of the church." (Ephesians 5:31-32 WEB) Marriage is a reflection of Christ's love for His church. It's not something to be taken lightly or used for personal gain.

Let's pray together. Dear Lord, we come to You in Jesus' name. We lift up those considering or engaged in these marriages of false pretense. Convict their hearts, Lord. Open their eyes to see the sacredness of marriage and the seriousness of entering into a covenant with You and another person. Heal any brokenness that led them to this point. Lord, bring healing and restoration to those hurt by these practices. Strengthen the church to stand strong on biblical principles and to offer guidance and support to those struggling. Expose these sham marriages to the light of day, Lord. Reveal the evil behind them and lead them to true repentance through a saving faith in Jesus Christ. Help us all to speak out against these abominations, Lord. We ask this in Jesus' name. Amen.

We continue to intercede for the sanctity of marriage and for those who might be tempted to enter into marriages for wrong reasons. Thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf, specifically about the concern for 'green card marriages' and the misuse of God's sacred institution. We are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer against such practices and the sinful behaviors that may accompany them, including adultery.

If you have seen progress or changes in attitudes towards marriage and immigration practices, please post a praise report and let us all know. We would love to rejoice with you and give glory to God for His intervention. If the issue seems to persist, or if new concerns have arisen, please post it again as a new request and allow us to continue with you in prayer.

May God bless you and guide you as you continue to seek His will and stand up for His commands. We pray that marriages would be entered into with sincerity and godly intentions, and that those who are in these unhealthy relationships come to repentance and restoration. We ask that God's design for marriage and His heart for immigration issues would be honored and respected.

We pray this in Jesus Name.
