THE GREAT PERVERSION​

Why is most of the Christian world keeping a day sacred that has not been sanctified by God? Why have they substituted the first day of the week for the true Sabbath day that God commanded us to keep? Is this not a sign of apostasy in substituting a counterfeit day for the true Sabbath day? Do we not become transgressors of the law when we violate the fourth commandment of God? Why has this perversion taken place? How did a counterfeit day replace the day God has sanctified and commanded to be kept holy forever? This study will show how this great perversion came about and how Satan deceptively changed the Sabbath to Sunday? Because of this great perversion of Satan most of the Christian world is in bondage to the traditions and commandments of uninspired men. WHY DO MOST CHRISTIANS WORSHIP ON SUNDAY?​

Christian leaders, who support Sunday worship in place of the Sabbath, tell us the reason is because we now commemorate the resurrection of Christ. But did Christ command us to keep Sunday as the Lord’s day, instead of the seventh day Sabbath? There is absolutely no commandment from Christ in the Bible that authorizes us to do this? Christ instituted the communion to commemorate His death and resurrection., not Sunday worship. Nowhere in the Bible is there any scriptural support for transferring the Sabbath to Sunday. God says He never breaks or alters His word or His covenants (Ps. 89:34). The Lord’s day has always been the seventh day Sabbath (Isa. 58:13). And will remain the Sabbath day perpetually through all generations and forever on the new earth (Isa. 66:22,23). This also discredits those who teach that the Ten Commandments and the Sabbath day were abolished by Christ under the New Covenant. Jesus stated that He came not to destroy or abolish the law but to fulfill it (Matt. 5:18-20). It is not the moral law of God contained in the Ten Commandments that was abolished by Christ but the 640 handwritten ordinances written by Moses, called the Law of Moses (Col. 2:14). It was these 640 ceremonial laws and Sabbath feast days that were nailed to the cross rather than the Ten Commandments (Col. 2:16,17). The New Covenant contains all of the Ten Commandments (Rom. 13:8-10; Matt. 24:20; Heb. 4:1-11). The Apostles taught that the Commandments are to be kept (Jam. 2:10,11), including the seventh day Sabbath (Heb. 4:1-11). Paul taught that we do not abolish the law but establish it in our lives through faith (Rom. 3:31). The difference between the Old Covenant and the New Covenant is that Christ has made a way for us to fulfill the righteousness of the law through the Holy Spirit (Rom. 8:1-4). Under the New Covenant we no longer keep the law to be saved but because we are saved (Jn. 14:15). Jesus is the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him and keep His commandments (Heb. 5:9; Rev. 22:14).

SATAN’S COUNTERFEIT SABBATH​

It all began with Baal worship or Sun worship. Baal or Sun worship is really just an ancient form of Babylonian witchcraft. Nimrod and his wife Semiramis are believed to be the true founders of witchcraft, Freemasonry and Roman Catholicism. Nimrod was worshiped as the Sun-God and his wife Semiramis as the Moon-Goddess. Baal worshippers also believed in the Star gods from which astrology is derived. In the Baal worship witchcraft cults like wicca, the Sun was considered to be the god of nature and the ruler of the zodiac. December 25th was kept thousands of years before Christ by the heathenistic Sun worshippers in honor of their pagan Messiah, Tammuz, who was the son of the Sun-God, Nimrod. Sunday was the day of the week in which these ancient Babylonian pagans chose to honor and dedicate to their Sun-God. Sunday was known by Sun worshippers as “the venerable day of the Sun.â€

HOW SUNDAY BECAME THE LORD’S DAY​

If neither Christ nor His Apostles changed the Sabbath to Sunday how did this come to pass? The first known Sunday law was enacted by Constantine I in 321 A.D. The edict called for the magistrates and people to rest and close their workshops on the sacred day of the Sun. Baal worship was widely practiced in ancient Rome during the time of Constantine. “Sol Invictus†(the Invincible Sun) was a supreme deity of the Roman Empire. It was Constantine who blended together the heathenism of ancient Rome with Christianity to create the Roman Catholic Church. Two very notable Sun worship festivals were “Christianized†by this unholy union. The birthday of the Sun was called Christmas and the Christian Sabbath became Sunday in honor of the Sun worship festival which was dedicated to the Sun-God, who in all reality was the Lucifer, the devil. “A few years after Constantine’s (Sunday worship) decree, the Bishop of Rome conferred on Sunday the title of the Lord’s day. Thus the people were gradually led to regard it as possessing a degree of sacredness.†(The Great Controversy Between Christ and Satan, E. G. White, p. 44) Bishop Eusebius, who lived during Constantine’s time, proclaimed that the Catholic Church transferred everything applicable to the Christian Sabbath to their new sacred Sunday, which they regarded as more honorable and in which they called the Lord’s day. Sixteen years later the Roman Catholic Church, through the Council of Laodicea, A.D. 337, issued the following church cannon in support of Sunday worship. “Christians shall not Judaize and be idle on Saturday (the Sabbath), but shall work on that day; but the Lord’s day they shall especially honor, and as being Christians, shall if possible, do no work on that day. If, however, they are found Judaizing, they shall be shut [“anathema,â€â€”excommunicated] from Christ.†So this is how Satan, through the Roman Catholic Church, substituted a counterfeit Sabbath that was dedicated to himself through idolatry, for the sanctified seventh day Sabbath that was blessed by God. Satan made war with the early Sabbath keepers who refused to bow to Baal worship. These Sabbath keepers faced severe persecution from Rome and were tortured, imprisoned and killed for their faithfulness to God and His holy day.

BOWING DOWN TO ROMANISM​

The Roman Catholic Church claims that Sunday keeping is purely an invention of theirs. “Sunday is a Catholic institution, and its claims to observance can be defended only on Catholic principles…†(Catholic Press, Sydney, Australia, Aug. 1900) Catholic Historian John Gilmary Shea, wrote in “The American Catholic Quarterly Review, Jan. 1883, p. 139, that “The Sunday as a day of the week set apart for the obligatory worship of Almighty God is purely a creation of the Catholic Church.†Albert Smith, Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Baltimore admitted that “If Protestants would follow the Bible, they should worship God on the Sabbath day. In keeping the Sunday they are following a law of the Catholic Church.†Priest Thomas Enright, president of the Redemptorist College, in Kansas City, Missouri, penned the following statement: “Prove to me from the Bible alone that I am bound to keep Sunday holy. It is a law of the holy Catholic Church alone. The Bible says ‘Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy.’ The Catholic Church says, No. By my divine power I abolish the Sabbath day and command you to keep holy the first day of the week. And lo! The entire civilized world bows down in reverent obedience to the command of the Holy Catholic Church.†The Catholic Church claims they got the authority to change the Sabbath to Sunday from Jesus Christ. The Catholic Church claims: “The Pope is not only the representative of Jesus Christ, but he is Jesus Christ Himself, hidden under the veil of flesh.†(The Catholic National, July, 1895)

WHO WILL YOU FOLLOW?​

Dear friend you must make a decision as to whom you will follow. Will you follow Christ and keep His commandments or will you follow the commandments of men. If you choose to follow the counterfeit Sunday Sabbath you worship God in vain (Matt. 15:9). Sunday observance is paying homage to the pagan idolatrous practices of Babylon and the Roman Catholic Church. Sunday keeping is a mark of irreverence and disloyalty to Almighty God and an act of worship to the Papacy. To transgress the fourth commandment of God in order to obey a man-made, devil inspired, precept offends God and honors Popery. If we choose the authority of the Pope over Christ we also break the first commandment and commit idolatry. Why desecrate and defile the holy Sabbath that God consecrated for rest and worship for the veneration of a pagan, man-made counterfeit that honors the Sun-God, who is really Lucifer? Awake friend and no longer dishonor God and profane His holy Sabbath! Jesus says to no longer reject the commandment of God for a worthless, man-made counterfeit (Mk. 7:9,13). Repent of this disgrace and disobedience to God and ask Him to cleanse you of this transgression ( 1 Jn. 1:9) and return to His holy Sabbath (Neh. 13:15-22). Our duty to God is to worship Him and honor Him on the day He has established and consecrated (Ex. 20:8-11; Heb. 4:1-11). We cannot have an abiding relationship with Christ if we do not keep His commandments (1 Jn. 2:3-5). Enter into His seventh day Sabbath rest today and reap the blessings of obedience (Heb. 4:10; Isa. 58:13,14)
