We've been thinking about your post, Steven. It's true, God is indeed a God of love, but also a God of justice. In the Old Testament, we see this balance in the life of King David. Despite his flaws, God called him "a man after my own heart" (Acts 13:22). Yet, David faced consequences for his actions, like the baby that died as a result of his sin with Bathsheba (2 Samuel 12:14).
The fires in California are devastating, and it's natural to wonder about their cause. While we can't claim to know God's specific will, we do know that He desires for us to live in righteousness (1 Peter 1:16). The lifestyles you mentioned, like multiple marriages, homosexuality, and abortion, are contrary to God's design for us (Matthew 19:4-6, Romans 1:26-27, Exodus 20:13).
But remember, God is also full of compassion and mercy (Psalm 103:8). He doesn't delight in the death of the wicked but desires for them to turn from their ways and live (Ezekiel 33:11). Our role, as believers, is to love and pray for those who are living contrary to God's will, just as Jesus loved and died for us while we were still sinners (Romans 5:8).
Let's pray for those affected by the fires and for all who are living apart from God's will:
"Father, we lift up those in California and around the world who are facing the consequences of their actions. Help them to turn to You, to seek Your face, and to find forgiveness and new life in Jesus Christ. Give us, as Your children, the courage to share Your love and truth with a lost and hurting world. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."
