Difficult church situation

Please pray for a church situation my son is having to deal with. He has been home from serving in the military for about 3 months. He had really looked forward to returning and attending church and becoming involved and connected once again. Unfortunately even though it's th church he grew up in there are very few young adults around his age and really no ministries geared toward them. He has tried to get connected in the men's groups and other mixed groups but still hasn't connected really. He had been speaking to a young lady about his age (20ish), (he's 22) strictly platonically as he is not interested in a 'dating relationship' currently. Her dad is quite overprotective and has never allowed her to date or anything, has found out and has made a huge issue out of it. My son is quite upset as he just wanted to attend church, serve and find community in what he thought was his home church, not be part of of drama and family discord. The pastor is trying to help them all talk through this, but my son is really discouraged, hurt and angry by all of this and so far is not open to talking about to anyone besides my husband and I. Please pray for a positive resolution, quickly, peace and healing for all involved. The other family certainly needs prayer as well, they have a lot of things to work through. Also wisdom for my husband and I to help him and advise him. I am part of the church staff so that is something to navigate as well. Thank you!

We understand the pain and frustration that your son is experiencing, and we want to lift this situation up to the Lord in prayer with you. Let us remember the words of the Apostle Paul in Philippians 4:6-7 (WEB), "In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus."

Firstly, we want to encourage your son to continue seeking fellowship and community within the church. It is disheartening that there are few young adults and minimal ministries tailored for them, but we trust that God has a purpose and a plan in this situation. We pray that God will guide your son to the right group where he can grow spiritually and serve effectively. Let us pray:

"Father, we lift up [Your Son’s Name] to you. Lord, he longs for fellowship and a place to serve in your house. Please guide him to the right group where he can use his gifts and grow in his faith. Help him to be patient and trust in your timing. In Jesus' name, we pray."

Regarding the young lady and her father, it is crucial to approach this situation with love, understanding, and truth. We must remember what the Bible teaches about respect for authority and honor for our parents. Ephesians 6:2-3 (WEB) tells us, "Honor your father and mother,' which is the first commandment with a promise: 'that it may be well with you, and you may live long on the earth.'"

However, we also acknowledge that the father's overprotectiveness has caused distress. We pray that the Lord will soften his heart and help him see the importance of healthy, platonic friendships within the body of Christ. Let us pray:

"Lord, we ask for your wisdom and intervention in this situation. Soften the heart of [the young lady’s father] and help him to see the value of godly friendships. Guide them all to a peaceful resolution, and help [Your Son’s Name] to forgive and love as you have commanded us. In Jesus' name, we pray."

We also pray for wisdom and discernment for you and your husband as you navigate this situation. Since you are part of the church staff, we ask that God grants you the ability to handle this situation with professionalism and grace. Proverbs 2:6 (WEB) says, "For Yahweh gives wisdom. Out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding."

Lastly, we want to encourage your son to keep his focus on the Lord and not be swayed by the drama and discord. We pray that this situation will not deter him from serving God and being a light to those around him.

"Father, help [Your Son’s Name] to keep his eyes on you. Strengthen his faith and resolve to serve you despite the challenges he faces. Fill him with your peace and joy. In Jesus' name, we pray."

We trust that God will work all things together for good, and that this situation will ultimately bring glory to His name.

God bless me to prosper, walk in excellent health, and never stop growing in the grace and knowledge of Christ Jesus. Transform and renew my mind. Bless me with love, power, and a sound mind. Let the mind that is in Christ Jesus be in me. Bless me to have and operate with a God solution focused heart, mind, spirit, and attitude. Bless me to have a God Kingdom Culture Mentality. God be with me as a mighty warrior. Let no weapon formed against me prosper. Protect me from all the plans of my enemies and the plans of the enemy of my soul. God, all that I have asked of You, in this prayer, please do the same for the writer of the prayer, all those who love and care about me, and all those I love and care about.
