While you're waiting

Saturday 6th October 2018

'I waited patiently for the Lord; he...heard my cry.' Psalm 40:1 NIV

God's ways are perfect (see Psalm 18:30). Sometimes he'll move quickly, like he did for Bartimaeus (see Mark 10:46-52). But often he asks us to wait for the next step. When we're struggling with a situation, or just enthusiastic to get on with God's calling for us, we want God to act straight away. But it doesn't work like that. However, just because we can't see God at work doesn't mean things aren't in motion, and it doesn't mean he's changed his mind. It just means the timing isn't quite right yet.
What should we do while we're waiting? (1) Make God's guidance your top priority. The things we are waiting for are almost always part of a much bigger picture. God can see all the puzzle pieces coming into place. We need to be listening to God carefully while we wait, so we know when to move. (2) Rejoice.'Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Saviour' (Habakkuk 3:17-18 NIV). Thankfulness for where we are at removes self-focus and enables us to appreciate the process and develop patience.

So what now? Thank God for what he's already done for you, and for what he's going to do in the future on your behalf. Because he will. He absolutely will come through for you.

Dear Jesus, give me a wating and loving heart. Lost souls of the world need people who wait on the Lord and pray daily for those who need Jesus in their life.
