Be generous and be refreshed

'The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.' Proverbs 11:25 NLT
There are many ways to be generous - with our time, money, words, talents. But why should we be generous? Proverbs 11:25 says, 'The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed' (NLT). When we give of ourselves to others, God rewards us for our generosity.
The Bible tells us: 'A farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop. You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don't give reluctantly or in response to pressure. For God loves a person who gives cheerfully. And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others' (2 Corinthians 9:6-8 NLT). This doesn't mean we should only be generous when we need something. We should be looking to do kind deeds for others as often as we can. Matthew 25:40reminds us that, 'whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me [Jesus]' (NIV).
Every kind, generous act that comes from our hearts is an act of devotion to God. God is generous: he has given us all that we need now and for the future. So therefore we are free to honour God's generosity by being generous with what we have.
So what now? Look out for ways to be generous this week? God's promise is that you will be refreshed when you are.
