'You cannot handle it alone.' Exodus 18:18 NIV

The Bible says that we should care about the 'interests of the others,' not only our own (Philippians 2:4 NIV). But sometimes we can take this too far. We try and be everything for everyone, seeing it as our responsibility to help whoever asks with their problems. As part of the body of Christ (see 1 Corinthians 12:12-31), we all have a responsibility to be there for others, but we can all offer different things. Sometimes God will use us to help others, other times he'll use someone else. It doesn't always have to be us.
Moses had to learn this lesson. He was wearing himself out physically, emotionally and spiritually trying to keep up with the demands of two million Israelites. He thought he had to be the one with answers to everyone's problems. His father-in-law said to him, 'You cannot handle it alone. Listen now to me and I will give you some advice' (Exodus 18:18-19 NIV).
It takes wisdom, maturity and humility to know when we're taking on too much. We can end up not helping anyone because we can't cope. What Moses was doing was neither good for him nor the people depending on him. We need to guard ourselves against becoming overwhelmed by too many people offloading their problems on us - guarding ourselves is a sign of strength, not weakness.

So what now? Feeling like you're taking on too many people's problems? Next time someone asks for your help, suggest they speak to someone just as qualified to help them, but commit to pray for them.

Dear Lord, we need you every single hour of our life. Without You we are nothing at all. Everything comes from Your hands. Give us wisdom to share Jesus with others and be a blessing to those we are going to be in contact with. In Jesus name. Amen

Yes it is true God sometimes uses us to help others and this can be a very good thing BUT it can happen that we go to help others and we end up getting hurt. This world has become so sue crazy and there are those that. falsely accuse others of wrong doing. Why? Because they caused a big problem and they try to play the victim card for sympathy. Please be careful who ou try to help. It is true we may be elderly and can not help what could happen when we help others. It may be more than we can handle. How do we know before we take a Chance helping others? We pray God will show us the way. I no longer attend church services in public. Now adays we pray in our own home and try and serve the Lord the best we possibly can helping others. But be careful helping others.
