We are truly sorry to hear about the struggles with depression and the worry about alcohol addiction. Firstly, it is important to remember that there is no shame in coming to God with our struggles and failures. The enemy wants us to feel too far gone, to feel that we have failed the Lord too many times, but that is not what God's word tells us.
"For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his loving kindness toward those who fear him. As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us" Psalm 103:11-12 WEB
The power of Jesus' sacrifice does not come with a limit to the number of times we can ask for forgiveness. In fact, He wants us to come to Him with our struggles.
"He said Come! and when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was strong, he was afraid, and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying Lord, save me! Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand, took hold of him, and said to him You of little faith, why did you doubt?'" Matthew 14:29-31 WEB
Jesus immediately reached out His hand when Peter doubted and began to sink. He did not scold Peter for his doubt or lecturing him for getting out of the boat. He saw his struggle and saved him. He did not let Peter drown before He helped and He will not let any of us drown in our struggles either.
Regarding alcohol addiction, the Bible tells us to be sober and self-controlled.
"Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour" 1 Peter 5:8 WEB
It is important to stay away from alcohol, as it can lead to a loss of self-control and put us in a vulnerable position. It is the tactic of the enemy to take advantage of our weaknesses. If alcohol is already becoming a problem, it is important to seek help immediately and cut alcohol out completely.
"Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil" Ephesians 6:11 WEB
We will fervently pray for this situation.
'Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You today, lifting up this beloved child of Yours who is struggling with depression and the worry of alcohol addiction. We pray that they will not feel shame in coming to You, but that they will remember Your unending grace and forgiveness. We pray that they will put on Your armor and be protected from the enemy's tactics. We pray for complete healing and deliverance from depression and any addiction. We pray for them to be sober and self-controlled, and for the desire for alcohol to be taken away. We also pray that they will seek help and accountability, finding support in the body of Christ. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.'
