Dear family,
I am urgently writing to ask for you help us pray. A colleague is under investigation by the General Medical Council regarding his clinical practice. The Council is due to visit the hospital next week on Monday - Thurs and his defense lawyers and the council asked him to nominate clinical colleagues as to provide references. Everyone who has done so is being intimidated by management and they have expressly claimed that “the hospital wants to get rid of him.†The allegations relate mainly to his communication skills. He is Arabic – and yes he does have an accent. In the past I have witnessed other clinicians say to him “can you speak in English,†when he is clearly speaking in English. Tolerance towards foreign doctors is very little if not none. When have 5 foreign doctors in my department and all of them are facing very tough times. While we sympathize with our colleague – there is not much that we can do. Offering any support while on doubt bring a threat to our employment ( we do not have an enforceable employment law, there is no law / policy about dealing with witness protection / whistle-blowing, no policy on dealing with interference – a few those who have given references have been summoned to the medical directors office) with harassment and bullying which is what is happening to those who have offered to offer support – but we believe in the risen Savior and therefore sincerely asking you to join us in praying for God’s just intervention. I acknowledge my colleague has some communication problems – but these issues could have been dealt with through training and structured supervision. It is painful to observe what I am seeing at the moment and, sad to learn that a fellow human being is willing to see the demise of another being. Please please pray that the hand of the Lord is seen and that the corruption which runs in our hospital is relieved. The Lord has to intervene – we cannot carry on working in such a hostile environment. Please Lord you said if call upon your name you will hear out prayers – we NEED Him in this every dark moment. Please pray for my colleague and all persons of color working within my department.
