DO YOU HAVE A BURDEN?
“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit–fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. This is my command: Love each other.†John 15:16-17
As I was working in my office, I was listening to a radio program. The speaker was asking if you have a burden that God has given you. If your answer was yes, then you can never run from that burden. If the Lord has touched you with a burden for teens, you can surrender willingly or postpone the call, or fight the Lord from doing what He has planned for your whole life, dragging your feet in opposition.
As I was listening, I thought, “That is what our standers are doing.†They are burdened about their spouse, but they have also become burdened about the sin of adultery in the world. Standers are burdened about the sanctity and the restoration of marriages.
I have suggested in our local Bible Study meetings to have every stander who was in attendance to ask their church to put on their weekly prayer list: “Pray for God’s healing touch on all hurting marriages.†Imagine the impact that would have around the world if all churches prayed for rekindling, rebuilding and restoring marriages. We would have a revival!
As Noah was told to build an ark to save his family, as Moses was to take the Israelites out of Egypt, as Jonah was commissioned to go to Nineveh to preach against the wickedness, have you been told by the Lord to fight and stand for your spouse and family? I know I was told to pray for my husband and for my marriage. During my stand I felt that I wanted to share my story and the power of our awesome Lord God some way in the future.
I knew years ago that I was to proclaim God’s power in restoring, rebuilding and reconciling marriages. I had a burden for marriages and their families. I was also burdened about our churches not standing in the gap for a prodigal who fell into the trap of sin. I was and still am burdened about the sinfulness of our nation and our world.
Are you burdened for your spouse who you married for life, with whom you have spent the most intimate times in your life? Yes, I know they have wounded and rejected you right now. But Satan was out to destroy what God had put together when you said your wedding vows. Your Lord knows everything. Will you join me and become burdened about God’s truths in His Word? Will you stand firm, hating how the enemy tricked your spouse, blinding and deceiving them about God’s truths about the covenant and sanctity of their marriage?
“…It is because the LORD is acting as the witness between you and the wife of your youth, because you have broken faith with her, though she is your partner, the wife of your marriage covenant. Has not the LORD made them one? In flesh and spirit they are his. And why one? Because he was seeking godly offspring. So guard yourself in your spirit, and do not break faith with the wife of your youth. “I hate divorce,†says the LORD God of Israel. Malachi 2:14-16a
I was successful as an Administrator at a Cardiology office, but I knew the day that the Lord called me into full-time ministry, I would never have peace unless I was doing God’s perfect will. I did not want to be a Jonah. Are you willing to pay the price for your family? Don’t give up, but become burdened about the sin that your spouse has fallen into and then pray for your beloved spouse and any ungodly addictions or relationships. I pray that you have chosen to go down that narrow road of marriage restoration, choosing to follow your Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who is leading the way.
Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom. One generation will commend your works to another; they will tell of your mighty acts. They will speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty, and I will meditate on your wonderful works. They will tell of the power of your awesome works, and I will proclaim your great deeds. Psalm 145:3-6
I read a quote from Bill Bright that said, “If God has placed a burden on your heart for a person, a group of people, a nation, or any situation, ‘pray without ceasing’ (1 Thessalonians 5:17), ‘keep on asking,’ press in, do not ever give up. God will answer. Great is His faithfulness!â€
May you choose to stand and have a burden not only for your marriage, but for all marriages. Believe that your God can part the Red Sea of circumstances. God can remove any and all obstacles that you are facing. Allow the Lord to use you now or in the future. His way is the best way. God’s timing will be perfect. Will you trust Him with your entire life and marriage?
But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:8-9
