Whenever God issues a word of warning through His prophets it us oftentimes directed toward His cities and nations. Just because people are prospering at a given time does not mean that the prophet has erred in assignment. Prophecy is never about the present, that's called reporting; prophecy is ALWAYS about the future - whether two months, two years, etc. - it's about the future. I prophesied "flood" to this city for over a year, and seven months after having left this city, that prophecy was manifested, just as God had warned. All God requires is that we "Despise not the prophecies." He requires this because His warnings can seem harsh and He knows that man is prone to embrace the false prophecies of "peace," when He has not sent those false prophets.
When times were good, I warned you. But you ignored me, just as you have done since Israel was young. [Jeremiah 22:21 (CEV)]
I chose to use the Contemporary English Version because it makes it clear that God is not speaking to an individual, but rather here, to a nation. An effective tip for reading the Bible with understanding is the method which I learned many years ago: Whenever you see the words "Daughter of" in the text, replace it words with the words "City of." That's a good place to start, but even better is to simply ask God for understanding. As I have stated before, God usually refers to His cities in the effeminate. In like manner, He refers to His nations as "mothers," hence the "Mother Nation."
It's not that God doesn't want us to prosper, He teaches us to prosper, which is why He wants us to do His way. His purpose, plan, and timing is perfect.
THANK YOU LORD
The following reading suggestion is expressly for the servants of the LORD, particularly God's shepherds:

Ezekiel 34
When you know what is right and just, yet you refuse to do it, it is counted to you as sin. You are but tenant shepherds; called to look after and protect God's inheritance. The vineyard does not belong to you. Even so, God owes you nothing for your service [Luke 17:7-11], not even a ball game. Also consider how God responded to the people's murmuring because of their impatience and ingratitude in [Numbers 11:20]. In fact read all of Numbers chapter 11, if you can devote the extra time to God. I will speak more on the subject soon.
PAITENCE
It’s more than a virtue: It's sound doctrine.
