What are the new rules? Why are simple numbers being changed to hashtags ###? We're no longer able to use first or last names (like a newspaper or online article is able)? Is this temporary? Is it a glitch? Have we been hacked? What could be the harm in saying "100 feet" or "Patrick Mahones."Just requesting some clarification. Thank you.

It’s a new privacy redaction service that we custom designed for this site. It masks out as much as it can across the site that looks personally identifiable - even initials, numbers, and relationships sometimes. It should only redact / mask by replacing with ###. Otherwise, the rest of the posts should be as they were originally. You’ll see this everywhere. But it will take several months to go through the whole site, starting most recently.
It’s not perfect but is about the best we can come up with and is something that needed to be done. We get complaints about this from people when something related to them is posted. It doesn't take long for search engines to pick it up and keep it for awhile. It’s in our terms of service also to avoid personal information. We actually only need enough on the site for people to pray for something where God can fill in the personal details.
Until about two months ago, there was no feasible way to do this. However, we have found a process that is able to get close enough to do this at this scale using available resources. If it takes out too much or not enough, we will need to accept it for now. Even in blogs or news articles it will apply since there's no easy way to separate that out.
It's actually very difficult, even with all the recent tech advancements, to get this even close to working at this scale in this mixed content of personal and Biblical information. There are many systems that can detect names and information; but, almost none can understand the context enough to leave Bible names, places and events as is at the same time. The small number that come close have generally been cost prohibitive.
Some accompanying changes are: no edits are allowed to posts once submitted (since once the privacy has been checked it needs to be the same). Other processing such as audio, etc. will wait for the privacy check first (usually within a minute or two). I believe it will also provide a notification to the user who posted it when this happens in a DM.
We will need to adjust to this for now as it is and will not be able to respond to questions about what it did and why. If you find issues with it, you can try rewording future posts. If some posts get completely redacted, try splitting them up into smaller parts in separate posts.
