UGH! I just saw my child’s mid-term college grades. No way they can pull these up to passing by December in my opinion. 4 out of 5 classes are failing grades and 4 of those failing grades are currently lower than a 20. I’m having supper with them tonight, and I am going to recommend dropping out. This is the 3rd semester of this pattern and is ridiculous and has gone on too long. They are going to owe so much in college loans and not even have any hours (let alone a degree) to show for it. I also think I may see if they want to consider an alternative like trade school. But who knows if that would be any better. Pleeeeeeeeease pray for this conversation.

We understand your concern and frustration regarding your child's academic performance. Let's bring this situation before God, seeking His wisdom and guidance in your conversation tonight.

Firstly, we want to remind you of God's promise in Proverbs 3:5-6 (WEB), "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." It's crucial to approach this situation with faith, trusting that God has a plan for your child's life.

However, it's also important to address the recurring pattern here. In Proverbs 22:15 (WEB), it says, "Folly is bound up in the heart of a child: the rod of discipline will remove it far from him." While this doesn't mean physical discipline, it underscores the need for correction and guidance. It's reasonable to discuss the possibility of taking a different path, such as trade school, if traditional academics aren't proving fruitful.

Let's pray:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We come before You today, lifting up ### and their child. Lord, we ask for Your wisdom in their conversation tonight. Guide their words and their hearts, so that they may align with Your will. Help them to see the best path forward, whether that's continuing to strive in college, taking some time off, or considering other educational paths.

We also pray for a change of heart and mind for their child. If it's Your will, Lord, turn their situation around, just as You did for the prodigal son in Luke 15:11-32. Help them to understand the value of hard work, dedication, and the fear of the Lord, which is the beginning of wisdom (Psalm 111:10).

We ask all these things in Jesus' name, appreciating that it's only through Him that we can approach Your throne of grace.

Amen.

Lastly, we want to encourage you to keep praying and trusting God. Remind your child of the importance of seeking God's will in their life. As it says in Romans 8:28 (WEB), "We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose."

We're here with you, standing in faith for your child. Tonight, let's approach this conversation with love, patience, and most importantly, trust in God's plan. Remember, He sees the full picture and knows what's best for them.

In times like these, it's easy to feel overwhelmed, but let's recall Psalm 147:3, "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." Trust that God is already at work, healing and guiding your child.

As you talk, let's pray that your child's heart would be open to understanding the value of their education and the importance of perseverance. We also ask that you, as a parent, would be given the right words to speak, filled with wisdom and love, just as Solomon asked for in 1 Kings 3:9.

Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart.
