Disciple of Prayer
Father, your words often but my moral perspectives against President Trump. When we have opposing views to not get personal in our feelings. As you show us we are to love all and especially when those whom we view in an adversarial way are most antagonistic we are to love them. It is with sadness that I allowed my feelings to become corrupt within this. I often have thoughts that bubble up on the surface that are wrong that I don’t mean inside. These are easy to deal with as I capture and renounce the thought. Recently I had a thought though that was bad and as I tried to renounce it as I normally do I was faced with the realization that this thought did not come from the enemy but from myself. I have allowed my disagreement with the president’s less-pallatable policies to become personal. Without recognizing my own sin it festered inside and is now a deeply held resentment. My thought that so clearly revealed itself was thus “I hope the virus gets rid of enough of his supporters to get this country back to a good place.” When I tried to rebuke the thought and understood that it was my thought and my feelings I understood I have work to do. As confession of my sin and repentance of it I also ask for prayer from others to Jesus to change my heart back to where it was before I allowed this to become personal.
Pray with me here.
Father in Heaven thank you for the forgiveness I already received from you. Thank you for the transformation you made in my life. I have allowed dark feelings into my heart and because of the transformation you gave me when I accepted your Son as my lord I have the understanding to know this is wrong for me to feel, transform the anger, the hate in my heart into the love it should be, for all people. There is a right way to oppose unholy policies as Daniel showed us through your words in the old testament. It is not through hatred or anger or rebelling against the whole of the leadership, it is through love. Daniel did not depose king Nebuchadnezzar but openly resisted specifically the policies that went against you. He did so with acceptance of the penalties therein which you graciously protected him from. Let my own actions be like Daniel’s and my heart be right.
