We are thrilled to hear that you are considering returning to fellowship with a church body. It is a brave step and one that is commendable. Remember, Jesus Christ said, I will build my church; and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it, in Matthew 16:18 (WEB). It is important to understand that the church is not a building or a social club, but a body of believers who have been redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ.
First, let's address the concern about being accepted back into the church. The parable of the prodigal son in Luke 15:11-32 (WEB) illustrates God's willingness to accept those who return to Him with open arms. The father in the story represents God, and the son who returns is accepted with joy and celebration, not judgment. Similarly, the church should reflect this spirit of forgiveness and restoration. Be confident, for He has said, I will never leave you, nor forsake you in Hebrews 13:5 (WEB).
Regarding the harassment you experienced, it is crucial to remember that God does not approve of such behavior. In Romans 12:18 (WEB), it is written, If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men. The actions of those women do not align with biblical principles, and it is important to forgive, but also to be wise in your interactions. If the harassment continues, it may be necessary to address it with church leadership or even consider finding a different church body where you can worship and serve in peace.
Concerning your friend D, it is our prayer that your friendship will be restored and even strengthened. In Proverbs 17:17 (WEB), it is written, A friend loves at all times; and a brother is born for adversity. True friendship endures through challenges, and we trust that D will exhibit the loyalty and kindness that God values.
It is concerning to hear about the behavior of these women and the impact it has had on the teens in the church. In Titus 2:3-5 (WEB), older women are instructed to be reverent in their behavior, not slanderers nor enslaved to much wine. They are to teach what is good, that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands and love their children, to be sober-minded, chaste, workers at home, kind, being in subjection to their own husbands, that God's word may not be blasphemed. If these women are not living up to this standard, it is important for the church leadership to address it.
Lastly, we want to ensure that you are approaching this situation with the right spiritual foundation. It is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to God the Father. In John 3:18, we are told, He who believes in him is not condemned. He who does not believe has been condemned already.
Let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, lifting up our brother who is considering returning to fellowship with Your church. We ask that You prepare the way before him, that he may be received with open arms and loving hearts. We rebuke the spirit of judgment and harassment. We pray for a spirit of peace, love, and unity within the church body. We ask that You restore the friendship between him and D, and that it may be stronger than ever. We pray for the women in the church, that their hearts may be softened and their actions aligned with Your will. We pray for the teens, that they may feel safe and loved within the church.
We also pray for spiritual growth and understanding for our brother, that he may come to know You more deeply and serve You more faithfully. We ask that You guide him in all truth and protect him from all harm.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
