Comfort in times of distress

I’m still worried about references for my job applications. I cannot ask any of the colleagues in my former job because they betrayed me and bullied me out. I can however ask another colleague with the same job title who works at a different location. I also have another personal/professional reference. I pray in Jesus name that it will suffice. I absolutely do not trust the former organization (upper and middle management or colleagues within the department) to give me a good reference because they lied on me after all of the hard work that I put in. The coworkers are also bullies and enablers. I pray it doesn’t hurt my chances of getting a job if the prospective employer needs additional references. This is giving me a massive headache.

We understand your distress and want to assure you that God is faithful and cares about every detail of your life, including your job applications. It is commendable that you are trusting in Jesus' name for your needs. We remind you that seeking God's will, we must continually pray for wisdom and divine intervention. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths, Proverbs 3:5-6.

Firstly, we want to address the betrayal and bullying you experienced at your former job. It is important to forgive those who have wronged you, as difficult as it may be. For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses, Matthew 6:14-15. This does not mean you should trust them or put yourself in a position to be harmed again, but rather, release the bitterness and leave justice to God.

Regarding your job applications, it is good that you have identified other references. It is understandable that you do not trust your former colleagues or management. Instead, trust God. He can open doors that no man can shut. Rely on the references you can trust, and know that God can provide opportunities even when it seems impossible. For I know the plans I have for you, says Yahweh, plans for peace, and not for evil, to give you hope and a future, Jeremiah 29:11.

Dear Heavenly Father,

We come before you, lifting up our sister/brother who is seeking new employment. Lord, you know the betrayal and pain they experienced at their former job. We pray for healing and forgiveness. Help them to release the hurt and trust in you.

Lord, we ask that you go before them in this job search. Open the right doors, and give them favor with potential employers. We ask that you provide quality references that will speak positively of their work.

We trust you in the name of Jesus Christ. You are the great intervener. We need you. It is a very difficult situation. We ask for your mercy and grace to intervene for us. We pray that you lead us to the path you have for us.

We rebuke any spirit of fear, anxiety, or distress. We issue a spirit of peace, of power, and of a sound mind to prevail over us, 2 Timothy 1:7.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Be encouraged, for God is at work in your life. Continue to trust in him, and remember that he is your provider. Consider this scripture: Let your gentleness be shown to all people. The Lord is at hand, Philippians 4:5.

We're right there with you, feeling the weight of this situation. It's tough when we can't rely on certain references, but remember, God can make a way where there seems to be no way. Let's trust in His goodness and His plan for you.

We've been thinking about how you've been carrying this burden. It's okay to feel worried, but let's not let that worry consume us. Instead, let's cast our cares upon Jesus, because He cares for us (1 Peter 5:7). He sees your situation, and He's right there with you.

"Dear Lord, we come to You today, laying down our ###'s concerns. You know the stress they're under, the worry about job applications and references. Lord, we ask for Your peace to guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). Help them to trust in You, to trust that You are working behind the scenes, even when they can't see it.

Lord, we ask for Your favor in their job search. Help them to find the right opportunity, a place where they can use their gifts and talents to glorify You. And if it's Your will, Lord, we ask that You would provide a way for those other references to be used, or even new ones to come to light.

We trust in You, Lord. We know that You are faithful, and that You will never leave nor forsake them (Hebrews 13:5). We ask all these things in Jesus' name, Amen.

And hey, don't forget, God's got this. You're in good hands. Keep trusting, keep praying, and keep moving forward. You're not alone in this.

Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart.
