CLEANSE MY HOME FROM ALL IMPURITIES! - Part 1
Are you ready for your marriage to be rebuilt one brick at a time, with the Lord revealing and exposing the areas in your and your spouse’s hearts and lives that need to be cleansed? Are you wanting to rebuild your marriage on the solid rock of Jesus Christ? Are you willing to get to work to cleanse your own life first from all of your impurities?
Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are proved right when you speak and justified when you judge. Psalm 51:1-4
May I suggest you examine your own heart as you cleanse your home from all impurities. You may recognize or know Psalm 51 as you may have been praying this Psalm for a period of time with your spouse’s name in it. I often pray this Psalm as a prayer with my name and my entire family’s name in it as I believe none of us are where we need to be in walking in Christ-likeness, blamelessness or living a life of holiness. I also pray this Psalm for you and all other standers and all prodigal spouses as we are praying for miracles of marriage restoration. May this be your prayer for you and your family tonight:
Surely you desire truth in the inner parts; you teach me wisdom in the inmost place. Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Psalm 51:6-7
I pray that you have chosen or will start to do some kind of fast as we are praying for your spouse’s heart and many others to be convicted by the Holy Spirit during Lent or the days before we celebrate that our Lord Jesus Christ had a victorious resurrection. Where are you today? What thoughts are you battling? Are you standing and praying strong? I know the enemy wants you to quit standing for your marriage to be resurrected from your marriage problems or divorce. Yes, the enemy will use many difficult circumstances, but God is greater! Dear stander, make the sacrifice and read your Bible for 15-30 minutes a day and then pray, seeking the Lord for His wisdom and direction for the problems that you are facing alone. Then see how the Lord will increase your faith, giving you hope, as you trust completely in the Lord.
Now let’s ask the Lord to cleanse your own heart from what you have been thinking, saying or stuffing down deep into your wounded, hurting heart. Ask the Lord to cleanse you and your husband or wife’s hearts from all the wounding that each of you may have received as a young child, or as a teenager, or where either of you have been wounded during your marriage by all that has happened.
Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity. Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me. Psalm 51:9-12
God knows both of your hearts and He wants you both to be made whole so that He can bring you together with no baggage between each of you as you hold each other closely and say, “I love you. Forgive me for not meeting your needs. I have forgiven you of any part of our marriage problems. I know the Lord wants us to rebuild our marriage on His solid rock, a foundation that will last forever.â€
Now I pray that you will read this passage of scripture that I received early in my praying for marriage restoration after I repented of divorcing Bob. I prayed and asked that both my heart and Bob’s heart would be cleansed from all impurities. I then asked the Lord to take both my heart and Bob’s heart of stone and turn them to hearts of flesh.
But then God revealed a powerful truth. It was not for my happiness for my marriage to be restored, but for the Lord to get all the glory to His holy Name. That others would come to know the One and only true God. That is why I told Bob during my waiting for him, “I will be waiting until I turn 80 and be in a rocking chair.†Regardless of how many other marriages that he would have.
My prayer for you today is for the Holy Spirit to reveal a new truth about praying for your marriage. I pray that the Holy Spirit will put a new love and fervor for your spouse’s heart to be transformed to be with you in Heaven.
“Therefore say to the house of Israel, ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: It is not for your sake, O house of Israel, that I am going to do these things, but for the sake of my holy name, which you have profaned among the nations where you have gone. I will show the holiness of my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, the name you have profaned among them. Then the nations will know that I am the LORD, declares the Sovereign LORD, when I show myself holy through you before their eyes. For I will take you out of the nations; I will gather you from all the countries and bring you back into your own land.’†Ezekiel 36:22-24
Now read all the promises that the Lord gives you in this powerful passage of scripture that continues on further.
“Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them. Then you shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; you shall be My people, and I will be your God. I will deliver you from all your uncleannesses. I will call for the grain and multiply it, and bring no famine upon you. And I will multiply the fruit of your trees and the increase of your fields, so that you need never again bear the reproach of famine among the nations. Then you will remember your evil ways and your deeds that were not good; and you will loathe yourselves in your own sight, for your iniquities and your abominations. Not for your sake do I do this,†says the Lord God, “let it be known to you. Be ashamed and confounded for your own ways, O house of Israel!â€
‘Thus says the Lord God: “On the day that I cleanse you from all your iniquities, I will also enable you to dwell in the cities, and the ruins shall be rebuilt. The desolate land shall be tilled instead of lying desolate in the sight of all who pass by. So they will say, ‘This land that was desolate has become like the garden of Eden; and the wasted, desolate, and ruined cities are now fortified and inhabited.’ Then the nations which are left all around you shall know that I, the Lord, have rebuilt the ruined places and planted what was desolate. I, the Lord, have spoken it, and I will do it.†Ezekiel 36:25-36 (NKJV)
The Lord is going to circumcise both your hearts so that you can live in obedience. This will break the bondage to the cycle of sin. My Holman Study Bible says: Regeneration is a secret act of God by which He imparts new spiritual life to dead hearts. Never doubt the power of the Holy Spirit to go, touch and transform you and your spouse’s hearts completely.
Do you understand the promises in this passage of scripture? If you do not yet understand or doubt, do a cross-reference of this passage that will magnify its meaning. When I was standing, I cross-referenced so many passages and the Lord would magnify God’s truths to me so that all doubt was erased forever. Try it!
I pray that today you have cleansed your own heart from any and all sins (including hidden sins) that you did not want to admit to the Lord. Yes, you and I must crucify our sinful nature daily. There is freedom in Jesus Christ for you and your husband or wife and children. Never doubt the power of the Holy Spirit to empower us to say, “No, to the flesh.†Do not believe anything else!
