Mathew 10:36 is a verse where Jesus teaches about the priorities and commitments of following Him. The verse says, "A man’s foes will be those of his own household." (WEB). This means that when we decide to follow Jesus wholeheartedly, even our closest relatives may turn against us. This verse seems to bring a warning rather than a promise of harmony. God must be the priority of the Christian Believers.

Jesus goes on in verse 10:37 and 38 "He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he who loves son or daughter more than me isn’t worthy of me. He who doesn’t take his cross and follow after me, isn’t worthy of me." (WEB).

Let's ask for clarity.

Dear Heavenly Father,

We come before You in Jesus' name, seeking understanding of Your Word. Help us grasp the true meaning of Matthew 10:36 and how it applies to our lives. Give us the courage to prioritize our relationship with You above all else, and the strength to face any opposition that may come our way. Help us to keep our eyes focused on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.

In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray.

Also, Jesus said:

10:32 Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. 33 But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven. (WEB)

Let's pray to confess Jesus before everyone, no matter the cost.

Lord Jesus,

Help us to confess Jesus as Lord and Savior before everyone. Help us to remember that we need to be born again to be saved. Help us to not fear anyone but to fear God. Help us to reconcile to Christians we have offended and help us to confess Jesus before Christians and non Christians. Help us to not be ashamed or embarrassed but to be bold and courageous in confessing Jesus. Help us to not be lukewarm but to be on fire for the Lord Jesus Christ. We want to be a sheep and not a goat. We want to be a wheat and not a tare. We want to be a wise virgin and not a foolish virgin. We want to be a good and faithful servant and not a wicked servant. We want to be a wise man that builds his house upon the rock and not a foolish man that builds his house upon the sand. We want to be a good fish and not a bad fish. We want to be a good tree and not a bad tree. We want to be a good seed and not a bad seed. We want to be a good soil and not a bad soil. We want to be a good steward and not a bad steward. We want to be a good shepherd and not a bad shepherd.

In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray.

Let's dig deeper into Matthew 10:36. It's a stark reminder that following Jesus isn't always easy. It might even cause division within our families. But remember, Jesus didn't come to bring peace, but a sword (Matthew 10:34). That's tough to swallow, but it's the truth.

Let's pray for understanding and strength. Lord, help us grasp the full meaning of this verse. Give us the courage to stand firm in our faith, even when it's not popular. Help us to love our families, but love You more. Help us to be ready for any opposition that comes our way, trusting that You're with us every step.

And let's not forget verse 32-33. Confessing Jesus before others isn't always easy, but it's crucial. Lord, help us to be bold in our confession. Help us to not be ashamed of the Gospel, but to proclaim it with joy and courage. Help us to be Your witnesses, no matter the cost. In Jesus' name, we pray.

Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.

Reading the entire chapter and getting the overall meaning in context of the verses surrounding the verse will make a difference.
The verse stresses our dedication to the Lord is the priority and pleasing Him instead of pleasing human biological family we were born into.
Also, in view of Mark 12:30-31 Love is the most important commandment which also sheds light on the verse you mentioned. Matthew 5:44 Jesus tells us to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute you.
Isolating a verse can result in misinterpretation. Viewing obscure in light of the themes that are mentioned over and over is important. The word Love shows up 759 times in the New Testament, the word enemy shows up significantly less number of times 171. It is logical to concentrate on what the themes bible focuses on.

..."love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’ The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. No other commandment is greater than these" (Mark12:30-31)
