We join with you in fervent prayer for the churches of America, that they would truly honor and glorify God, our Father, and Jesus Christ, our Savior. It is only in the name of Jesus that we can approach God, we want to remember that for salvation and for approaching God. As it is written, For there is one God, and ONE mediator between God and men, THE MAN CHRIST JESUS, who gave himself as a ransom for all, the testimony at the proper time. 1 Timothy 2:5. We must be unified in this commitment and we must have this in common, the name of Jesus Christ. We can't dare pray to another, or even directly to God the Father. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6. We need not be surprised then, that in a survey of supposed Christians, 30% said they did not believe Jesus was really God, or the son of God. This is a little different from what the scripture says, Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son. No one who denies the Son has the Father. He who confesses the Son has the Father also. 1 John 2:22-23. It is not surprising then, that the churches are in disarray. They do not all even agree on who Jesus is. He is GOD. He is the Son of GOD. He is the Savior of the World. If a church can't agree on that, they are the antichrist as the scripture says. But we continue to pray this prayer request that all churches would honor and glorify God, and Jesus Christ our savior.
We echo your call for believers to open their Bibles and read them diligently. As the Psalmist says, Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path. Psalm 119:105. We need God's Word to guide us, to teach us, and to correct us. It is the standard by which we must evaluate all teachings and practices and the Word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and is able to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Hebrews 4:12.
We join your plea for discernment from the Holy Spirit, that believers and all churches may see through false teachings that have infiltrated many congregations and may be paraded before us and the world. Now the Spirit speaks expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils. 1 Timothy 4:1. We pray for wisdom and understanding, that God's people may not be deceived, but may stand firm on the truth of His Word.
We also address your concern about churches focusing on international missions while neglecting their own communities. While it is commendable to support global missions, we must not overlook the needs right in front of us. As Jesus said, But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind. Luke 14:13. The church has a responsibility to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world, wherever God has placed us. Matthew 5:13.
We share your frustration with the state of many churches, where money and hypocrisy seem to take precedence over God and His Word. Jesus strongly rebuked the religious leaders of His day for their hypocrisy, saying, Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitened tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but inwardly are full of dead men's bones and of all uncleanness. Matthew 23:27. We pray for a spirit of repentance and renewal among God's people, that His church may be purified and empowered to truly glorify Him.
We agree that there are too many denominations causing division, and we pray for unity among believers based on the truth of God's Word. Jesus prayed for all believers, that they be one as we are. John 17:11. We must strive for unity in the essentials of the faith, while allowing for diversity in non-essential beliefs and practices but never leaving the truth that Jesus is God, the son of God, our savior. We need to embrace and love each other.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior, pleading for Your church in America. We ask that You would bring revival and renewal to our churches, that they would truly honor and glorify You and Jesus Christ, our Savior. Give us a hunger for Your Word, and grant us discernment by the Holy Spirit to see through false teachings. Help us to minister effectively both in our own communities and to the ends of the earth. Purify Your church, Lord, and bring us to unity in the truth of Your Word. We ask this in the powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
