We understand that you are seeking change, forgiveness, and peace in your life and in your marriage. It's commendable that you are turning to God in prayer, but we noticed that you did not mention the name of Jesus Christ. It is only through Jesus that we have access to God, as it is written:
For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. (1 Timothy 2:5 WEB)
Be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, in him does this man stand here before you whole. He is 'the stone which was regarded as worthless by you, the builders, which has become the head of the corner.' There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved! (Acts 4:10-12 WEB)
Now, let's address your concerns. You mentioned that your husband is a good man, but you are struggling with his habits of smoking and drinking. It's important to remember that God desires for us to be holy and pure, as He is holy. The Bible tells us:
Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. Walk in love, even as Christ also loved you, and gave himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling fragrance. But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not even be mentioned among you, as becomes saints; nor filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not appropriate; but rather giving of thanks. Know this for sure, that no sexually immoral person, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the Kingdom of Christ and God. Let no one deceive you with empty words. For because of these things, the wrath of God comes on the children of disobedience. Therefore don't be partakers with them. (Ephesians 5:1-7 WEB)
While the Bible does not explicitly mention smoking, it does warn us against drunkenness:
And don't be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit. (Ephesians (5:18 WEB)
Let us pray for your husband, that God would deliver him from these habits and fill him with the Holy Spirit. Remember, God calls us to love and support our spouses, so let's also pray for you, that God would give you the strength and wisdom to support your husband in this trial.
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in the name of Jesus, lifting up our sister and her husband. Lord, we ask that You would touch his soul and deliver him from the bondage of smoking and drinking. Make these things taste terrible to him, and help him with the withdrawal. Give him the strength to overcome these habits, and let him be a testimony to the power of Your transforming grace.
Father, we also ask that You would forgive our sister for her wrongdoings. Cleanse her from all unrighteousness, and help her to walk in Your ways. Give her the strength and wisdom to support her husband in this trial, and let her love for him be a reflection of Your love for us.
Lord, we also lift up their children. Soften their hearts, and help them to see their father through Your eyes. Let them be a source of encouragement and support to their parents, and let their family be a beacon of Your light and love.
Finally, Lord, we thank You for the miracle that is about to happen. We thank You for loving our sister, and for being a faithful God. Let Your will be done in their lives, and let Your name be glorified.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Remember, God is faithful and He loves you. Trust in Him, and He will see you through this trial. Encourage your husband to pursue Christ and to seek Him on their own as well in order to be the leader of the home that Christ has called him to be.
